Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Interpreter to facilitate effective communication between individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing and those who are hearing. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of medical terminology, American Sign Language (ASL), and the nuances of interpreting in various settings, including hospitals and social work environments. This role is crucial in ensuring that all parties understand each other clearly while adhering to HIPAA regulations.

Responsibilities

• Provide accurate interpretation services for patients, families, and healthcare professionals in medical settings.
• Translate spoken language into American Sign Language and vice versa, ensuring clarity and understanding.
• Assist in communicating sensitive information related to medical conditions, treatment plans, and social services.
• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA guidelines while handling patient information.
• Collaborate with healthcare teams to ensure effective communication during consultations, examinations, and treatments.
• Interpret for child protective services when necessary, ensuring the needs of children and families are met appropriately.
• Stay updated on medical terminology and practices to provide the most accurate interpretations possible.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) is required.
• Experience or knowledge in medical terminology is highly desirable.
• Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply; proficiency in additional languages is a plus.
• Previous experience working in hospital settings or with child protective services is advantageous.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations.
