Procurement Pharmacy Technician – Job Description

Summary:

The Procurement Pharmacy Technician is responsible for managing medication and supply purchasing to ensure the pharmacy maintains optimal inventory levels. This role supports daily operations by coordinating vendor orders, monitoring stock levels, resolving inventory discrepancies, and ensuring compliance with pharmacy policies and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the procurement of medications, medical supplies, and pharmacy materials according to inventory needs.
  • Maintain accurate inventory levels through routine cycle counts and reconciliation of stock discrepancies.
  • Monitor medication usage trends and adjust purchase quantities accordingly to prevent shortages or overstocking.
  • Coordinate with wholesalers, suppliers, and manufacturers to place and track orders.
  • Verify delivery invoices, investigate discrepancies, and ensure timely resolution with vendors.
  • Assist in managing backorders and sourcing alternative products when needed.
  • Maintain accurate purchase records and ensure proper documentation for audits and regulatory compliance.
  • Collaborate with pharmacists, pharmacy leadership, and clinical teams to forecast supply needs.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state pharmacy laws, DEA regulations, and organizational policies.
  • Support general pharmacy operations as needed, including inventory rotation, receiving shipments, and stocking shelves.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Active Pharmacy Technician license/certification (state-specific requirements).
  • 3-7 years of pharmacy technician experience preferred; procurement or inventory management experience a plus.
  • Knowledge of pharmacy purchasing systems, medication ordering platforms, and supply chain processes.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in inventory tracking.
  • Excellent communication and vendor coordination skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in pharmacy software systems and Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook).

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $50, $120,000.00 per year
