Position Title: Long Term Special Education Substitute Teacher

School/Department: Montowese Elementary School

Reports to: Building Principal and Director of Student Services

Union Affiliation: Teacher Contract

Work Year: 25-26 School Year

Start Date: January 2026

End Date: TBD

Summary

Will provide specialized instruction to students who are identified with a disability of Autism and

multiple disabilities in the special education classroom and general education classroom.

Education/Qualifications

Valid 065 Connecticut Certification

A minimum of field work experience at the college level

Responsibilities/Expectations

Autism Certification, degree or extensive formal coursework in autism and/or students with significant cognitive and/or behavioral challengesImplement, model, monitor, and adjust a variety of instructional and social/emotional strategiesacross all settings – restrictive settings, regular classroom settings, and non-instructional settings, in cooperation with general education classroom staffExperience conducting Functional Behavioral Analysis and writing behavioral support plans, analyzing behavioral dataAbility to initiate productive communication to address student concerns with administration, team members, and parents.Develop a daily/weekly schedule of instructional and non-instructional activities for each paraeducator that supports students on your caseload always with the intent to build students' independence.Comprehensive knowledge of the Planning and Placement Team process and legal and related complianceConduct appropriate evaluations and assist other teams in understanding the special education eligibility process for students with or suspected of having a disability, including the use of state guidelines.Demonstrate teacher-leadership qualities to bring initiative and innovation to the special education department in the above areas.
