Summary: This position supports Melton's Operations Department on the Laredo Yard. This position exercises independent judgment and discretion and is responsible for verifying load compliance with DOT and company regulations through inspections. They are also responsible for traffic control and resolving yard logistics issues, and managing communication between brokers, drivers, Mexican carriers, and Operations leadership.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties as assigned

  • Inspect loads for damage and proper placement to ensure compliance with DOT, Melton, and Safety standards, and adjust loads as required using forklift.
  • Ensure all loads on the yard are properly tarped and secured and assist drivers with tarping or securement if required.
  • Dispatch drivers based on customer and freight needs. Update driver status and load notes in the dispatch system.
  • Assist Laredo Operations team with administrative functions as needed.
  • Prioritize yard movements and ensure proper trailer and truck positioning to maintain optimal yard flow.
  • Assists drivers and external carriers with any operational or load concerns while on the yard.
  • Ensure a clean, orderly, and safe yard.
  • Report any potential problems that may affect our service or profitability.

Schedule is 4 days on and 4 days off (10 hour shifts with a 1 hour meal break)

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma required.
  • Forklift certification and 2 years experience operating a 30,000# forklift.
  • Fully English/Spanish bilingual, both written and spoken
  • Customer service or logistics experience preferred
  • Driving or yard jockey experience preferred
  • Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).

Must be able to communicate clearly, handle stressful situations and pay close attention to detail with good organizational skills. Must also be able to work and perform as a team player and make sound decisions with little supervision. Must be able to work outdoors in the elements.

Physical Demands: It is necessary to talk, hear, sit, write, type. Must be able to safely climb on top of a flatbed trailer on occasion and be able lift 90 lbs.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $38,000.00 per year
