Position: RNDepartment: ChemotherapyJob SummaryProvides quality care that is dependent on physician order or through independent nursing interventions based on professional judgment in response to individualized patient needs. Promotes restorative health and/or supportive care using the nursing process to assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care.This position will be cross trained to work in the chemo room, but their main responsibility will be working in our triage room. Responsibilities will include checking charts for patients scheduled for injections, maintaining the injection schedule, administering subcutaneous and intramuscular injections, performing lab draws through implanted ports, implanted port flushes, nurse assessment visits, and disconnecting home chemotherpay pumps. Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesProfessional Responsibilities:Adheres to scope of RN practice as outlined by the MS Board of Nursing, regulatory standards and hospital policy Maintains profession and technical knowledge and pursues professional growth opportunities Supervises and supports the LPN, Nursing Assistant, Nurse Tech, Behavior Health Techs and studentServes as positive role model and in the preceptor role for new staff and studentsKeeping access to protected health information secure and confidentialCollaborates with physician and multidisciplinary team to address patient needsAppropriately seeks help or guidance from supervisor or other resource peopleAdapts to change and prioritizes workDemonstrates reliable attendance, reports on time and is ready to work at beginning of shiftCompletes assigned duties, willingly accepts assignments and assist others to complete work on timeWilling to support unit's staffing needs by occasionally adjusting work schedule, staying late or working extraEstablishes a safe, compassionate, caring environment for patients and their familyEstablishes a safe, supportive work environment that promotes teamworkCore Duties:Coordinates patient care by scheduling, consulting and organizing patient activitiesPerforms admission and ongoing patient assessment and responds appropriately to findingsEstablishes a Plan of Care for each patient to address acute physical, emotional, and spiritual needs.Promotes patient engagement by considering specific needs, values and preferencesEstablishes care goals, teaches patient/family about health conditions, medications, and self-care skillsDevelops discharge plan individualized for patient/ family needs that prevents hospital re-admissionsAccurately and completely documents assessments and nursing care in the patient's medical recordPromotes continuity of care by reporting activities, incidences, and changing patient needs to next caregiverDemonstrates infection prevention behaviors, consistent hand washing and use of appropriate PPEsAdheres to safe medication administration while preparing, administering, documenting and monitoring medsRecognizes safety risk and implements prevention plan for falls, skin breakdown and injuryContributes to the department's performance improvement activitiesDemonstrates competency in performance of clinical skillsEducation and ExperienceCurrent RN license by the Mississippi Board of NursingMust be able to read, write, understand verbal and written communicationPreferred QualificationsCPR or ACLS CertificationEssential Skill Competencies:Body system assessmentPhlebotomy: Establish IV accessSafe blood administrationMedication monitoringPreventive skin careChest tube careAseptic wound care/ dressing changeFoley catheter insertion/careAdvanced skills specific to individual units will be monitored for competency during orientationWorking ConditionsFrequently Continuously Sit, Walk, Seeing (Visual), Stand, Reach, Listening, Lift, Carry, Simple Grasping, Squat, Distinguishing colors, Bend Body, Fluids, Kneel, Firm Grasping, Climbing Stairs, Forearm Rotation, Hazardous Materials, Lifting up to 10lbs, Lifting 10-50lbs, Carrying Up to 10lbs, Lifting > 50lbs with assistance, Push on wheels Up to 200lbs, Carrying 10 to 20lbs, Use of Wheelchair, Push on wheels lbs, Use of Stretcher, Pulling Up to 350lbs with assistance Use of Carts, Use of Computer ExposureClassifications: High exposure risk
