Description

Perficient currently has a career opportunity for a Senior Azure Data Engineer to join our team located in the United States. This role is primarily office-based at a local Perficient location, with travel and on-site client engagements expected as needed.

Job Overview

A Senior Azure Data Engineer at Perficient designs, builds, and maintains data pipelines and solutions using Azure services like Azure Data Factory, Synapse, and Databricks. Responsibilities include collaborating with teams, ensuring data quality and security, mentoring junior engineers, and architecting scalable data solutions to meet client needs. Key skills required include a strong knowledge of SQL, ETL/ELT processes, data modeling, and experience with modern technologies such as dbt and Microsoft Fabric.

Responsibilities
  • Design and architect solutions: Lead the design and implementation of scalable and secure data architectures on Azure, leveraging services like Azure Data Factory, Synapse Analytics, and Databricks.

  • Develop data pipelines: Build, test, and maintain data pipelines to ingest, transform, and load data. This may involve using technologies like Data Build Tool (dbt) and Microsoft Fabric.

  • Ensure data quality and governance: Implement and maintain data quality, integrity, and security policies, utilizing tools such as Microsoft Purview or Unity Catalog.

  • Collaborate with teams: Work with data scientists, analysts, and business stakeholders to understand their data needs and build fit-for-purpose data assets.

  • Support project lifecycle: Participate in technical planning, requirements gathering, and delivery of complex projects.

  • Mentor and lead: Provide technical guidance and architectural leadership to junior engineers.

  • Monitor and optimize: Troubleshoot and monitor data systems to ensure optimal performance and make data-driven recommendations. 

Qualifications
  • Passionate developer with 8+ years of data engineering experience, with at least 3 years in a lead or senior data engineer role.
  • Minimum 5 years as an Azure Data Engineer, with experience in developing large-scale data processing/data storage/data distribution systems.
  • Expertise in Azure services such as Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Databricks, and Azure Data Lake (ADLS).
  • Proficiency in SQL and Python is essential. Experience with Spark is also highly valuable.
  • Knowledge of data modeling, including dimensional modeling and schemas like Bronze, Silver, and Gold, is often expected.
  • Experience with related tools and concepts like CI/CD automation (e.g., Azure DevOps), data governance (e.g., Microsoft Purview), and specific platforms like dbt or Microsoft Fabric is beneficial.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working in a large multi-vendor environment with multiple teams as a part of a project
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with JIRA/GitHub/Git and other code management toolsets
  • Experience with ELT/ETL development, patterns, and tooling is recommended
  • Experience with SQL, including Postgres, RDBMS platforms
  • Experience with various IDEs and code repositories as well as unit testing frameworks.
  • Demonstrated ability to leverage AI tools to enhance productivity, streamline workflows, and support data-informed task execution.
  • Familiarity with AI-enhanced platforms is a plus.
  • A solid understanding of AI capabilities and limitations, including ethical considerations, is expected.
  • Flexible and adaptable attitude, disciplined to manage multiple responsibilities and adjust to varied environments.
  • Ability to produce high-quality products within deadlines
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.

    Preferred Skills & Education

  • Certification in Azure is preferred.
  • Experience with ETL/ELT data platforms, including Informatica, DataStage, Fivetran, Matillion, and dbt.
  • Client-facing or consulting experience is highly preferred.

The salary range for this position takes into consideration a variety of factors, including but not limited to skill sets, level of experience, applicable office location, training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The new hire salary range displays the minimum and maximum salary targets for this position across all US locations, and the range has not been adjusted for any specific state differentials. It is not typical for a candidate to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent on the unique facts and circumstances regarding each candidate. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range for this position is $73,008 to $149,880. Please note that the salary range posted reflects the base salary only and does not include benefits or any potential variable compensation programs.
