Position Summary

Reporting to the Vice President of Membership, the SMS role focuses on driving sales through the acquisition of new sponsors and members, as well as fostering relationships with existing members. The SMS will actively promote the Chamber's mission by engaging in events and activities. Key responsibilities include identifying and developing sponsorship opportunities, assisting the VP of Membership with sales initiatives, managing sales-related projects, and attending select Chamber events.

Essential Job Functions

  • Report directly to the Vice President of Membership.
  • Develop and implement programs for sponsorship sales and membership growth, utilizing business networks and contacts.
  • Schedule and attend meetings with business, community, and networking groups.
  • Identify sponsor opportunities for both current and prospective members, preparing tailored sales proposals.
  • Support sponsor retention and development efforts.
  • Maintain the membership management system (CRM) with up-to-date membership information and sales leads.
  • Attend relevant early morning and evening functions.
  • Collaborate with the VP of Membership on sales strategies, goals, and programs.
  • Work closely with the Ambassadors, assisting in managing the Ambassador program.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with potential members through regular calls and visits.
  • Represent the Chamber at community events and activities, fostering a positive public image.
  • Perform public relations duties, including speaking engagements that promote the Chamber.
  • Assist in creating and implementing event platforms to support Chamber activities and member engagement.
  • Performs other duties as necessary including those outside of assigned areas of expertise as required in a dynamic and growing organization.

Qualifications/Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, public relations, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in business-to-business sales, with membership experience preferred.
  • Strong ability to clearly and effectively articulate the Chamber's mission.
  • Willingness and ability to adapt sales strategies and approaches to meet the needs of a growing and dynamic organization.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to maintain a calm, professional, and polished demeanor while interacting with a diverse range of clients, including corporate and social sectors, as well as internal staff.
  • Creative, solution-oriented, and skilled at identifying needs and applying resources effectively through consultative sales techniques.
  • Demonstrated commitment to business and economic development, and alignment with the Chamber's ongoing mission.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in MS Office applications, specifically MS Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook.
  • Technologically savvy and familiar with virtual meeting platforms. Ability to learn/adapt to new platforms.
  • Establishes and maintains effective relationships with members and government officials.
  • Strong interpersonal skills necessary to develop and maintain relationships with all team members and outside vendors.
  • Excellent attention to detail with high accuracy and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly developed sense of integrity and commitment to customer satisfaction and community.
  • Ability to work independently, accurately, and efficiently, with the ability to adjust quickly to changing priorities and aggressive timelines.
  • Advanced organizational, communication and time management skills.

Work Context

  • Engage with external customers and the public, both in-person and over the phone.
  • Work primarily indoors in climate-controlled conditions, with occasional outdoor duties in extreme weather during outreach events.
  • Involves prolonged periods of sitting, standing, and walking.
  • Regular face-to-face interactions with individuals and teams.
  • Requires public speaking and participation in events.
  • Flexibility in scheduling is necessary, with potential early morning and evening engagements.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in both indoor and outdoor settings for extended periods.
  • Capable of walking and standing for long durations.
  • Able to sit for prolonged periods and manage frequent interruptions throughout the day.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $60, $64,000.00 per year
