Description
We are seeking an experienced Manager of Transportation & Logistics to lead and optimize transportation and warehouse operations within a dynamic warehouse environment. This role is responsible for overseeing the planning, coordination, and execution of inbound and outbound transportation, ensuring cost-effective, timely and compliant movement of goods. The ideal candidate has a strong background in transportation logistics, carrier management, team leadership, warehouse operations and continuous process improvement within a high-volume warehouse or distribution center setting.
Essential Functions
Transportation Operations – Percentage 60%
- Manage day-to-day transportation activities including routing, scheduling, and dispatching across DC and VA facilities. Commuting will be required.
- Ensure efficient and timely delivery and pickup of goods to and from the warehouse.
- Oversee coordination of inbound and outbound shipments to align with warehouse capacity and customer demand.
Carrier & Vendor Management – Percentage 10%
- Develop and maintain relationships with carriers, third-party logistics providers (3PLs), and freight partners.
- Negotiate transportation rates and service contracts to maximize cost savings and service quality.
- Monitor carrier performance and resolve service issues as needed.
Compliance and Safety – Percentage 10%
- Ensure compliance with DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and all relevant transportation regulations.
- Oversee driver safety programs, fleet maintenance schedules, and training initiatives.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation for audits and reporting requirements.
Leadership & Team Development - Percentage 10%
- Lead and mentor transportation and warehouse team members, including dispatchers, drivers, pullers, receivers and administrative staff.
- Set clear performance goals, provide regular feedback, and foster a culture of accountability.
- Collaborate with warehouse and operations leadership to ensure alignment of transportation activities with overall logistics strategy.
Performance & Analytics
– Percentage 10%
- Analyze KPIs such as on-time delivery, cost per mile, route efficiency, fuel usage, and carrier performance.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement solutions to enhance efficiency and service.
- Prepare and present reports on transportation metrics and performance.
Qualifications
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in supply chain, Logistics, Business, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
- 5+ years of transportation/logistics experience in a warehouse or distribution environment.
- 2+ years in a supervisory or management role.
- Strong knowledge of DOT/FMCSA regulations, freight and carrier management, routing software, and TMS systems.
- Proven leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with food, temperature-controlled goods, or time-sensitive products.
- Proficiency with WMS, ERP, and route optimization tools (e.g., Wise, Road net, Descartes).
- Lean/Six Sigma or continuous improvement training/certification.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions
- Fast-paced warehouse and office setting.
- Occasional travel between warehouse locations or vendor sites.
- May require standing, walking, or lifting up to 50 lbs. during facility visits.
Reporting
- This role reports to the Senior Manager of Operations.

Compensation
The anticipated base salary for this position is $71,308 to $81,495. The actual base salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable.
Schedule
- Regular work hours are Tuesday - Saturday from 5 AM to end of the day; with weekends or extended hours as assigned for special events or projects.
