Job Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Direct Support Professional to provide essential care and support to individuals with disabilities or special needs. This role is vital in enhancing the quality of life for our son by assisting him with daily activities, promoting independence, and ensuring his safety and well-being. The ideal candidate will have experience in supporting individuals with behavioral and medical needs and a strong understanding of the principles of HIPAA compliance.
Responsibilities
- Assist with daily living activities, including personal hygiene, meal preparation, behavioral and medical needs, and medication management.
- Provide patient observation to monitor health status and report any changes to the family.
- Support in social and recreational activities to promote engagement and community involvement.
- Ensure a safe environment by adhering to safety protocols and following all dietary, medical, and behavioral needs.
- Maintain accurate documentation of client care activities while ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Provide first aid as needed and respond effectively to emergencies or crises involving clients.
- Ensure our son has an active day planned and can keep up with him in those activities.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in behavioral support or similar participant support settings is preferred.
- Knowledge of first aid procedures and seizure management is a plus
- Strong observational skills with the ability to recognize changes in client behavior or health status.
- Excellent communication skills and a compassionate demeanor towards individuals with disabilities or special needs.
- Understanding of HIPAA regulations and commitment to maintaining client confidentiality.
- Certification in CPR/First Aid is a plus but not mandatory.
- Experience with Autism and Fragile X is a plus
