San Francisco, California, United States Perplexity Full time

Perplexity is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead the team building a true 0→1 monetization product for an AI-native world. The AI Monetization team will own the monetization solution from building partner-facing portals to developing the algorithms that deliver relevant and useful content (Pro perks) to free and subscribed users based on their query intents.

You will lead, grow, and support a team solving critical problems at the intersection of AI and monetization, including:

  • Leading a full-stack team to build a monetization platform; including partner portals, content management, ingestion APIs, and indexing systems.

  • Leading backend and ML engineers to build a scalable content delivery platform that integrates naturally with agent workflows and intent-driven experiences.

  • Partnering closely with Product, Business/Sales, and Design to define and execute Perplexity's monetization strategy.

  • Collaborating across AI and Product orgs to leverage existing platforms (e.g., personalization and agent platforms) to accelerate the monetization roadmap.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and grow a multidisciplinary team spanning full-stack, backend, ML, and AI engineering.

  • Own the technical and product roadmap for Perplexity's agent-native monetization strategy.

  • Hands-on implementation of 0→1 monetization platforms, including onboarding the first cohort of customers and content.

  • Collaborate with Product, Finance, and external partners to ship new monetization capabilities end to end.

  • Foster a high-performance engineering culture grounded in reliability, velocity, and technical excellence.

Qualifications
  • 10+ years of software engineering experience.

  • 5+ years of engineering management experience, including recruiting, developing, and retaining high-caliber talent.

  • 5+ years of experience of commerce or shopping platforms at consumer scale, with strong reliability and performance requirements.

  • Deep experience in recommender systems and content delivery.

  • Deep experience in building marketplace for 3rd party integrations.

  • Strong organizational and execution skills: ability to manage parallel initiatives and guide senior engineers through tradeoffs and prioritization.

  • Comfort operating in ambiguity; key parts of the roadmap will be defined iteratively.

  • Proven track record of shipping reliable systems that are privacy-compliant and legally compliant.
