RK&K is seeking a motivated and creative Traffic Engineer to join our highly successful traffic group in our Wilmington, Delaware office. Come join and design your career as part of RK&K's talented Traffic team This is a temporary on call position with a non-fixed hourly schedule based on team needs.

As a Traffic Engineer with RK&K you will work alongside and collaborate closely with one of the largest, most talented groups of traffic engineers and transportation professionals in the industry. You will play a crucial role within our team, performing traffic analyses and developing traffic engineering designs to improve transportation systems throughout the region. Our projects focus on improving operations and safety for motorized and non-motorized modes of travel, providing healthy and livable communities, and implementing technology-based transportation improvements. Under the supervision of a professional engineer, you will:

Essential Function

  • Perform traffic engineering tasks including transportation safety evaluations, traffic operations analyses, and traffic control device design.
  • Provide traffic engineering support for projects ranging from small scale studies and designs for isolated intersections to complex solutions for urban arterial networks and major highway systems
  • Use microsimulation tools such as Synchro, SimTraffic and VISSIM to plan, visualize & analyze traffic-related projects
  • Prepare design plans for a wide range of traffic control devices including traffic signals, signing and pavement markings, temporary traffic control, lighting, and Intelligent Traffic Systems (ITS).
  • Prepare high quality technical reports, presentations, and design plans
  • Communicate technical information to non-technical audiences

Required Skills and Experience

  • Available to work an on-call/seasonal non-fixed schedule
  • Strong writing, verbal communication, and presentation skills
  • Passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (F.E.) exam OR have the ability to take and pass the FE exam within 12 months of employment
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related field with Traffic or Transportation focus
  • Master's Degree in Civil Engineering or related field

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Prior internship experience in Traffic or Transportation Engineering
  • Exposure to traffic related software (HCS, Synchro, SimTraffic, VISSIM)
  • Exposure to MicroStation and/or AutoCAD
  • Experience with MS Word/Excel/Access
