Position:  Home Instructor for Alliance City Schools

Employment Status:   Part Time ~ Days and Hours as Needed

This position does NOT include Health Benefits

Reports To:   Director of Student Services

Description:

Under the general supervision of the Director of Student Services, to facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing district approved curriculum; documenting student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of individual students and by creating a flexible, safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc.  To tutor according to the provided courses of study

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree or equivalent from a four-year college or university
  2. Appropriate State of Ohio certifications/license in the appropriate grade level
  3. Prior tutoring experience is preferable
  4. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board of Education may find appropriate

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  1. Knowledge of current teaching/tutoring methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiates instruction based upon student learning styles.
  2. Skills that foster and facilitate learning and classroom management
  3. Student/teacher relationship
  4. Professionalism
  5. Knowledge of curriculum and concepts.
  6. Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
  7. Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
  8. Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
  9. Ability to organize and coordinate work.
  10. Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
  11. Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
  12. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.

Essential Functions:

  1. Ensure safety of students
  2. Demonstrate knowledge of subject matter and present clear, complete and accurate explanations utilizing a variety of instructional techniques and media suitable to the level of learners
  3. Maintain respect at all times for confidential information
  4. Attend meetings, in-services and/or training programs as required per negotiated agreement and Superintendent or designee
  5. Observe ethics of the teaching profession
  6. Follow/support/carry out the district and building mission statement
  7. Refer attendance, health, and psychological/emotional problems to Director of Student Services
  8. Promote an environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.
  9. Instruct students in the principles of responsible citizenship and other subject matters specified in applicable laws, as well as administrative regulations and procedures of the school system.
  10. Continue to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
  11. Encourage parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
  12. Ensure that student conduct conforms to the school's standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
  13. Coordinate with other professional staff members, especially within grade level, to evaluate and assess curriculum, and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
  14. Supervise students in activities that take place out of the classroom during the school day, including activities involving school transportation.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and improve professional competence by attending professional seminars, workshops, in-services, etc. to keep current on relevant issues
  • Support school, enforce school rules and policies and work collaboratively with team members
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Services or designee
