GFT is seeking a Senior Project Bridge Designer to join our Transportation group in Boston, MA. This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring regular attendance at our Boston office.

What you'll be challenged to do:

As a Senior Project Bridge Designer, you'll engage in structural design, rehabilitation, analysis and load rating of bridges as well as the inspection of bridges and tunnels, preparation of construction documents, specifications, and estimates. This position is open to candidates with 10 plus years of experience. Day-to-day assignments and technical guidance will be provided by Project Managers and Senior Project Engineers.  

In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Participating in bridge design assignments including contract plans preparation and specifications, design calculations, quantity calculations, and development of cost estimates.

  • Performing and reviewing load rating analyses and preparing load rating reports.

  • Office and field support for construction services.

  • Reviewing shop drawing submittals.

  • Organizing submittals and addressing questions from contractors during the construction phase of projects.

  • Performing bridge and tunnel inspections and preparing inspection reports.

  • Informing Project Managers of workload and any changes in project schedule or scope or needs for additional services.

  • Providing technical guidance on unusual or complex problems.

  • Showing understanding of team management, developing project scope of work, estimating manpower needs, preparing CPM schedules and tracking project progress.

  • Assisting or participating in the preparation of business proposals.


What you will bring to our firm: 

  • Bachelor's and/or Master's Degree in Civil and/or Structural Engineering with an emphasis in structures from an ABET-accredited university or college.
  • 10+ yrs of experience in new bridge design, bridge rehabilitation, administration of construction services, load ratings and inspection of bridges.
  • Experience with structural design software such as AASHTOWare BrR, Midas 3D Civil, STAAD Pro, MDX, CSiBridge, LUSAS and/or other structural analysis software and applications such as MathCAD.
  • Strong knowledge and ability to read and interpret plans and shop drawings and evaluate contractor compliance with construction plans and specifications.
  • Team oriented and strong communicator with ability to work concurrently within multiple projects demands and transitioning priorities.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), AutoCAD/Civil 3D and/or MicroStation.
  • Commitment to maintaining professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • No relocation assistance - local candidates preferred.

What we prefer you bring: 

  • Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
Compensation:

The salary range for this role is $104,000 - $190,000; Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
