SoBran is seeking a Deputy Project Manager for our Bethesda, MD team.

Description of Duties: (Will include but not limited to)

  • Assist in the development and implementation of a facility wide in-house training plan/program for each position on contact.
  • Assist with periodic training sessions as directed by the client for each facility including the animal care and support staff. Training is to consist of hands on demonstrations, instructional classroom or a combination of these.
  • Individual will ensure employees complete the new hire orientation, AALAS training, and mandatory training for the client site.
  • Perform employee performance assessments to include validation of their understanding of the SOPs and abilities to perform job duties at the acceptable standards.
  • Develop, review, conduct, and report on laboratory animal skill training as well as maintain training reports in accordance with SOPs and applicable guidelines and regulations.
  • Assist in safety training sessions for all staff and management training for supervisors.
  • Assist with re-training and cross training for employees as needed.
  • Assist with project management duties such as:
  • Develop and foster effective teamwork with the staff and management team.
  • Set and clarify goals for staff, prioritize and coordinate work schedules.
  • Maintains and fosters good working relationship with clients on a daily basis.
  • Perform QA walkthroughs of all facilities.
  • Report all animal and personnel issues and concerns to the appropriate chain of command.
  • Interview potential applicants for open positions.
  • Personnel management to include disciplinary investigations and actions, performance improvement plans, and periodic performance reviews.
  • Conducts performance reviews.
    • All other duties as assigned by program and project management.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by program and project management.
  • You will be required to work on the weekends as scheduled. In addition, you will be expected to work extra hours during an emergency situation if any unexpected situations arise until work is completed. This position is considered as essential staff.

Required Experience:

  • Must have AALAS certification at the LAT level, be eligible for the LATG certification at time of hire and become AALAS certified at the LATG level within 1 year of employment
  • B.S. degree in biology, animal science, or similar discipline is preferred.
  • Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience in laboratory animal science, with 2 of these years in a supervisory role.
  • Experience with technical, husbandry and cagewash procedures associated with multiple animal species such as rodents, rabbits, dogs, sheep, and non-human primates; experience with biohazards and barrier techniques.
  • Lead by example in ways that exceed the expectations of the staff.
  • Understands and follows all SOPs and Quality Assurance Standards.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
