EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

General Statement of Duties: The Treatment Operator 3 performs routine tasks of a skilled nature in the operation of a wastewater treatment plant solids-handling system. The individual works under the supervision of the Superintendent of Water Reclamation Facility (WRF) and/or a designee. Distinguishing Features of the Class: Has responsibility for skilled duties in the operation of the wastewater treatment facility including raw pumps, bars, screens, grit & grease removal, coarse and fine screens, membrane treatment, chemical systems, and related equipment processes. Assists maintenance personnel in major maintenance and repair projects as needed. Performs work in accordance with procedures outlined by supervision. Inspects various equipment throughout the facility. Examples of Work: Makes regular inspections of the system and equipment to ascertain proper operation. Makes necessary adjustments to system and equipment. Collects samples for laboratory tests. May perform certain routine laboratory tests. Maintains logs of gauge and meter readings. Maintains appropriate records and reports of equipment operation. Reports process and equipment problems to supervision.Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of modern wastewater treatment plant principles and operating procedures. Knowledge of safety hazards and precautions of the work. Ability to use and handle mechanical tools. Ability to keep records and make reports. Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions. Skills in the operation of plant and equipment. Acceptable Experience and Training: Graduation from high school or GED equivalent; and possession of a Class I Wastewater Operator's Certificate issued by the Ohio EPA or the ability to obtain within two years (24 months) of being awarded the position. Additional Requirements: All employees appointed to the position of Treatment Operator 3 on or after January 1, 1997 shall be required to obtain a Class I Waste Water Treatment Certificate as issued by the Ohio EPA. Said employees shall be allowed a period of two years from the date of appointment or until the results of the last examination taken by the applicant within the two years are announced, whichever is longer, to qualify for the Class I Waste Water Treatment Certificate. The employee is required to take the test within the first year of being in the position. Waste Water Treatment incentive pay shall be paid to employee(s) in this classification provided the employee possesses a Class I, II, or III Certificate as issued by the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, and is an employee of WRF.
