PCT - Patient Care Technician - Continuing Care Nursery - Multiple Shifts

Pay range: $ $19.50 / hour

Shifts: Full time Evenings: Monday - Friday 3:30 p.m. to 12:00 a.m., Full time Nights: Monday - Friday 11:30 p.m. to 8:00 a.m.

Being a patient care technician (PCT) at UAB Medicine is the perfect way to gain hands-on experience for those pursuing a career in health care or while you're in nursing school. This role assumes responsibility for certain technical aspects of inpatient care, as directed by the RN or LPN on the unit, and they work side by side with bedside nurses as part of a care team. PCT responsibilities on this unit can include: orienting parents upon patient admission, assisting with everyday infant care needs (bathing, rocking, soothing, consoling, diaper changes, and linen changes), monitoring vital signs (temperature, pulse, blood pressure, respiration, weight, input and output), performing EKGs, ensuring that rooms have adequate patient care supplies, notifying nursing staff of any issues or concerns, keeping patient rooms clean and sanitized, and providing appropriate emotional support.

The Continuing Care Nursery (CCN) is a stepdown unit providing comprehensive care for preterm and term babies with medical conditions. UAB Women & Infants Services provides compassionate, comprehensive care for mothers and babies in our state-of-the-art Women & Infants Center, which is recognized as a Baby-Friendly birth facility by Baby-Friendly USA. To assume responsibility for certain technical aspects of patient care as directed by the RN/LPN for the hospital. To obtain and record vitals, weight, inputs and outputs. To successfully complete an in-house PCT training program. To demonstrate an awareness of patient and personal safety.

High School diploma or GED required. Certified with Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) within thirty (30) days of date of employment required. CPR certified within 30 days of employment.
