PREREQUISITES FOR EMPLOYMENT:
- Current Certifications in Lifeguard Training, CPR, AED and First-Aid

- Preferred 18+ years of age
- At least one year as a lifeguard with the City of Evanston
- Pre-employment Drug/Alcohol Test
- Criminal and DCFS Background Check
HOURS: Varies, Mondays-Friday 8:30am-5pm with occasional weekends and holidays.
General Task Statement:
Responsible for the supervision and safety of all camp staff and campers in the City of Evanston Junior Lifeguard Camp.
Supervision:
Under the direct supervision of the Recreation Program Coordinator and Recreation Manager
Essential Function(s) – Task Statements:
- Ability to work all nine (9) weeks of camp from June 8-August 9 and assist at lakefront until Labor Day (September 7) or until return to school.
- Adhere to staff policies including but not limited to time off request, attendance, and uniform policies.
- Know and enforce all rules and regulations pertaining to the Evanston Lakefront and Parks and Recreation camps
- Use proper surveillance techniques to guard the swimming area
- Identify patrons in need of emergency assistance and respond appropriately
- Maintain safe environment and supervise all campers
- Know and adhere to all boating regulations and safety measures
- Conduct camp and develop all designated lesson plans
- Conduct staff training sessions
- Responsible for effective and appropriate communication to patrons and camp parents
- Attend staff meetings as scheduled by program coordinator
- Maintain a clean and safe beach and office environment
- Responsible for care and maintenance of equipment and storage areas
- Complete written reports such as accident, incident and the like on a timely basis
- Communicate to supervisor(s) if there are problems or issues needing special attention.
- Performs other reasonable duties as assigned by program coordinator or program manager
- Knowledge in basic sailing, kayaking, paddleboarding, and boat driving
- Operate boats for tubing, water skiing, rescues, etc.
- Manages enrollment of campers
- Oversees safety of campers and camp counselors
- Assists with pre and post-season maintenance-related tasks as assigned.

Read: Ability to read staff manuals, memoranda, and attendance sheets.
Write: Ability to complete daily log sheets, accident reports, incident reports, jump reports, first-aid reports using prescribed format and conforming to all rules of punctuation, grammar, and style.
Speak: Ability to give verbal direction to subordinates, communicate effectively with co-workers, supervisors, citizens, and the public as well as other employers; speaking extemporaneously on a variety of subjects.
Amount of training, either on-the-job or formal education, usually associated with this occupation in addition to the Reasoning, Math and Language abilities detailed above:
Completed at least 1 year of high school
Complete all preseason training

Working conditions usually associated with this classification:
Ability to lift, kneel, bend, stand for long periods of time, identify or distinguish colors, and work outdoors at night with limited lighting
- Environmental conditions (physical surroundings) usually associated with this classification:
Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions such as rain, high temperatures, and humidity. Work environment includes beaches, recreation centers, multipurpose rooms, swimming pools, athletic fields, parks, playgrounds, and office space.

The worker is subject to inside environmental conditions approximately 5% of
the time and outside work 95% of the time with no effective protection from
weather conditions or temperature changes.
