Position Title:Pediatric Vascular Access - Part-TimeDepartment:Pediatric PICCJob Description: General Description: An OU Health Registered Nurse (RN) III works under general supervision and provides nursing care in a hospital setting to a variety of patients with health problems ranging from simple to complex. They are a critical link within their department in maintaining and modeling nursing practice standards and upholding the nursing code of ethics to ensure the highest quality of safe, patient care. RN III is the proficient nurse advancing to expert. This nurse has an intuitive grasp of complex variables that impact quality care on a larger scale and level. They have an ability to see the "whole" to mobilize resources when needed.  There is focus on patient outcomes and use of evidence-based practice, innovation and creativity when solving problems. They work efficiently and are team-focused, problem solvers, and are emerging unit leaders/mentors.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Aligns behaviors with OU Health values and maintains nursing professional practice standards.
  • Assumes responsibility for an assigned patient or group of patients.
  • Documents patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed medical treatments, noting all changes in physician order on assigned patients.
  • Assists physician in the examination of patients and in performing minor diagnostic procedures and treatment. Often utilized as a resource for more complex procedures and treatment modalities.
  • Obtains and monitors physiological data of patients, observes the physiological manifestations of patients, and intervenes when necessary.
  • Administers medication as prescribed.
  • Initiates, regulates and monitors intravenous infusions and blood products.
  • Delivers patient care competently; provides coaching and mentoring of others as needed.
  • Resolves patient complaints in a timely manner in accordance with policy and in collaboration with support staff.
  • Informs patient and family of hospital procedures and shares care plan during the time of care and at the time of discharge.
  • Makes referrals regarding patient care needs to appropriate personnel, and assists others with escalation of patient care needs when needed.
  • Fosters a growth mindset culture through providing mentorship, remaining open to coaching and feedback, and maintaining professional certification(s)/licensure in order to perpetually develop and uphold the skills required for proficiency within the nursing profession.
  • Develops a professional career plan and establishes personal, performance goals in alignment with enterprise-wide metrics, frequently measuring progress with department leadership. Provides mentoring and coaching to newer staff to assist in their professional development and career path journey.
  • Fosters an inclusive workforce where individual differences are valued and maximized to achieve OU Health's winning aspiration.
  • Delegates tasks to clinical support staff as needed.
  •  Interacts with the family and patient in sharing care plan(s) while in the hospital and at the time of discharge.
  • Provides feedback and opportunities for others to learn though formal and informal methods.
  • Influences others, builds consensus and gains cooperation from others to share information and accomplish goals.
  • Assists in filling and planning for staffing needs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required.
  • Master's Degree in Nursing preferred.

Experience: 5+ years of experience in patient care as a Registered Nurse  required.

License/Certification/Registration:

  • Current Registered Nurse License (RN License issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing, or a current multistate compact Registered Nurse (eNLC)).
  • Basic Life Support (American Heart Association) certification required upon hire.
  • Specialty certification(s) preferred.

  • Knowledge of advanced professional nursing theory, practices, techniques, and procedures. Often serves as a mentor and resource for team members and the unit.
  • Ability to organize, plan, coordinate, and evaluate nursing services and apply nursing techniques. Can work independently and lead a team.
  • Ability to maintain civility and good working relationships with other employees.
  • Ability to respond effectively to cultural and language needs of patients and visitors.
  • Skilled in computer applications designed to ensure quality and safety measures for patients.
  • Ability to establish and maintain integrity and trust with patients by advocating in the patient's best interest.
  • Ability to engage and manage conflicts and disagreements in a constructive manner.
  • Ability to maintain compliance accreditation with local, state, and federal regulatory standards.
  • Ability to foster an inclusive workplace where diversity and individual differences are valued and maximized to achieve the vision and mission of the organization.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills characterized by candor, openness, integrity, and ability to be diplomatic.
  • Skilled in advanced care delivery models and environmental design to ensure delivery of safe patient care that is evidence-based.
  • Ability to align behavior with personal values and determines fit with the organization's culture.
