What You'll Do:The Environmental Specialist will assist the Environmental Department with tasks related to company-wide permit compliance initiatives, site environmental audits, regulatory environmental compliance and company growth and improvement in sustainable practices, pollution reduction and energy conservation.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Work with operations team to develop, update, and modify site operating plans.
Update and manage the Company's environmental program, permitting program, and permit compliance.This includes performing regular site visits to audit program compliance and to provide feedback and recommendations on ways to improve.Assist in annual required reporting to federal, state, and local agencies.
Provide site employees with training and information regarding environmental compliance and best management practices.
Advise Manager of proposed and newly adopted regulatory changes and provide operations for measures necessary to maintain compliance.
Follow up on environmental inspections from regulatory agencies including the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), MPCA or other state agencies and county hazardous waste departments.
Assist in the creation and updating of maps and other graphics for use in plans, reports, and applications.
Keep Informed of the latest Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) rules and work with site personnel and regional managers to bring sites into compliance.
Update environmental management systems (EMS) with new data
Submit applications for environmental awards.
Conduct energy use audits and research.
Inspect plants and mining sites and annually update storm water pollution prevention plans (SWPPPs). Provide recommendations for storm water pollution prevention using best management practices (BMPs).
Qualifications and Requirements:
General understanding of industry regulations and ability to find and interpret written government regulations.
Discuss technical logistical aspects of environmental regulations with peers and upper management.
Attend and participate in evening meetings related to environmental requirements.
Able to occasionally spend nights out-of-town and/or state.
Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university; with an environmental, civil, or geo engineering related background; or
Two-year Associate Degree with three years of environmental experience.
2 years of experience preferred.
Ability to read, write and speak English.
Ability to read, write and speak Spanish prefrerred.
Experience with Microsoft Office
Experience with Autodesk Suite preferred.
Must have valid driver's license.
Pay: $65,000 annually
