Company Overview

We are a full-service, nationally operating engineering firm providing integrated design and consulting services to Department of Defense, federal government, and private-sector clients across the Continental United States. Our teams support mission-critical facilities, secure installations, industrial infrastructure, and complex commercial environments where quality, reliability, and compliance are non-negotiable.

We are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer (PE) to join our Charlotte, NC office and play a key leadership role in the delivery of technically complex electrical and communications systems for new construction and retrofit projects.

Position Summary

The Senior Electrical Engineer is a technical and project leadership role responsible for the independent design, quality control, and execution of electrical and communications systems for military, federal, industrial, and commercial facilities. This individual will serve as Engineer of Record on assigned projects, lead design efforts from concept through construction, and mentor junior engineers while collaborating closely with architectural, mechanical, structural, and civil disciplines.

This role requires a strong combination of hands-on technical expertise, project management acumen, and leadership capability, with the confidence to take projects from early planning through final construction close-out.

Experience working on Department of Defense or secure federal facilities—including an understanding of active military environments, mission continuity, and compliance requirements—is highly valued.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Design & Engineering Leadership

  • Lead the planning, design, and execution of electrical power, lighting, grounding, fire alarm, communications, and low-voltage systems for new construction and renovation projects.

  • Independently develop complete design packages, including drawings, specifications, calculations, and cost estimates.

  • Apply advanced engineering principles, codes, standards, and judgment to solve complex technical challenges and adapt designs to unique facility requirements.

  • Serve as Engineer of Record (DOR) and provide professional seal where applicable.

Quality Control & Regulatory Compliance

  • Perform comprehensive quality control (QC) reviews of internal and subcontractor electrical and communications designs.

  • Review consultant-prepared drawings and specifications, identifying design corrections and ensuring compliance with applicable codes, standards, and federal regulations.

  • Ensure designs comply with NEC, UFC, NFPA, DoD criteria, and other governing authorities.

Project Execution & Client Support

  • Manage scopes of work, schedules, budgets, and resources for assigned projects.

  • Conduct site visits to document existing conditions, verify constructability, and support design development.

  • Support proposal development efforts, including scope definition, fee estimates, schedules, and technical narratives.

  • Evaluate contractor bids, participate in feasibility studies, and support construction phase services.

  • Review construction inspection reports and prepare payment recommendations.

Construction Administration

  • Provide technical support during construction, including submittal review, RFI responses, and field coordination.

  • Participate in inspections and project close-out activities to ensure design intent and quality standards are met.

Mentorship & Team Leadership

  • Mentor, train, and provide technical guidance to junior and mid-level engineers.

  • Delegate tasks effectively while maintaining accountability for quality, schedule, and budget.

  • Contribute to the development of internal standards, processes, and best practices.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related field.

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.

  • 8+ years of progressive electrical engineering experience, including leadership on complex building or infrastructure projects.

  • Proven experience delivering projects from concept through construction.

  • Strong working knowledge of NEC, NFPA, UFC, and applicable federal design standards.

  • Experience preparing construction documents, specifications, and cost estimates.

  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting Department of Defense or federal facilities, including secure or mission-critical environments.

  • Familiarity with active military installations and operational constraints.

  • Prior experience as Engineer of Record on large or complex projects.

  • Experience mentoring junior engineers in a consulting environment.

  • Security clearance (active or ability to obtain) is a plus.
