Job Overview

Join our dynamic team as a Program Assistant for the CT Paid Leave Program, where you will supports GBAPP's community education and outreach efforts related to the Connecticut Paid Leave Program. This position helps ensure that individuals, families, and employers, especially in underserved communities, are informed about their rights, benefits, and how to access paid leave resources. The Program Assistant will provide administrative, outreach, and coordination support to the program staff, including event coordination, data tracking, and follow-up communication to ensure efficient and culturally responsive service delivery.

Position Requirements:

  • Administrative and clerical support: Experience in a support role is crucial, as the job involves assisting with program logistics and general office administration. This includes data entry, managing records, and preparing reports.
  • Strong interpersonal skills: The ability to effectively interact with a diverse range of people is essential. This includes explaining complex program concepts in an understandable way to community members and other stakeholders.
  • Public engagement and outreach: Experience in public-facing roles is a major asset. This could include representing an organization at community events, workshops, or other outreach programs.
  • Customer service: The role often involves answering informational questions from the public and serving as a liaison between the program and community members. Prior experience in customer service demonstrates an ability to help people navigate questions and issues.
  • Independent work: CEC initiatives may require staff to work independently or with little supervision, especially at off-site events. Being a self-starter who can manage their own schedule and tasks is highly valued.
  • Familiarity with state programs: A general understanding of how state agencies operate and how to gather and compile program-related data is helpful.
  • Technical proficiency: Program assistants often need to use multiple computer programs and systems simultaneously, including portals used for program administration and data entry.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support GBAPP's mission of improving community health and equity.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Associate degree or equivalent experience in human services, public health, communications, or a related field.
  • At least one year of experience in community outreach, administrative support, or customer service.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and follow-up skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and compassionately with diverse populations.
  • Basic understanding of community resources and public benefits.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and data entry systems. Must be able to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Flexible in terms of availability (weekdays, evenings, weekends), to accommodate scheduling of outreach, workshops, presentations, and provide applicant assistance for CT Paid Leave.
  • Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license are required.
