Operations Coordinator

Position Summary:
We are seeking a dependable, safety-conscious Nursery & Yard Operations Coordinator to oversee the daily operation of our nursery, plant holding yard, and topsoil production area. This role is critical to ensuring healthy, well-maintained plant materials are available and organized for upcoming landscape construction projects.
In addition to nursery and plant care responsibilities, this position supports topsoil production and manages the scheduling of material deliveries to help reduce indirect labor time and loading delays. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with plant materials, strong organizational and communication skills, and a proactive approach to safety, logistics, and efficiency. Bilingual (English/Spanish) candidates are highly encouraged to apply.
Key Responsibilities:
- Nursery & Plant Material Oversight
- Manage daily care and organization of all plant materials in the nursery and holding yard
- Monitor plant health and perform watering, pruning, pest/disease checks, and seasonal rotation
- Ensure plant material is properly labeled, inventoried, and staged for upcoming projects
- Maintain a clean, safe, and accessible nursery area with clear traffic paths and safe storage practices
- Topsoil & Yard Operations
- Support and oversee the topsoil production operation, including material handling and inventory control
- Maintain safe work practices when operating or supervising the use of yard equipment (e.g., skid steers, loaders)
- Monitor stockpiles and ensure materials are stored safely and correctly
- Logistics & Scheduling
- Coordinate with superintendents and project managers to prepare and stage materials in advance for the following day's work
- Schedule and oversee deliveries with internal drivers and outside haulers to ensure timely, safe delivery of materials
- Maintain accurate delivery logs, yard schedules, and inventory records
- Crew & Loading Efficiency
- Organize yard flow and material layout to reduce morning loading times and crew delays
- Ensure all loading activities are performed safely and efficiently, using proper equipment and lifting techniques
- Safety & Compliance
- Promote and enforce a safety-first culture in all aspects of yard and nursery operations
- Conduct regular safety checks of equipment, materials, and yard conditions
- Participate in and lead safety meetings, toolbox talks, and incident reviews as needed
Work Schedule:
- This is a full-time, year-round position
- Standard start time is 6:30 AM, Monday through Friday
- End times vary depending on daily operational needs
- Some weekend work may be required during peak seasons or as needed to meet project demands
Qualifications:
- Minimum 3 years of experience in landscape construction, nursery operations, or yard logistics, with a strong background in plant material handling
- Demonstrated knowledge of plant species used in commercial landscape projects
- Familiarity with topsoil and aggregate production or handling is a plus
- Proven ability to coordinate deliveries and material staging in a high-paced environment
- Skilled in operating (or supervising the operation of) equipment such as forklifts, skid steers, and loaders – certifications a plus
- Strong commitment to jobsite and yard safety practices
- Good communication and organizational skills; ability to interact with crews, superintendents, and vendors
- Bilingual in English and Spanish highly preferred
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record required
