The Department of Public Service and Administration in The Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A&M University is seeking one full-time, non-tenure academic professional track Associate Professor of the Practice for the Spring and Fall 2026 semesters designated with a teaching load of six courses - three for each semester (Spring and Fall This position will support the department's instructional needs in public policy formation and related areas, with an emphasis on local and state government. The three teaching assignments for Fall 2026 will be determined by the department head, based on the department's needs.
We are seeking a distinguished candidate with professional experience in public service, urban planning, and city management to inspire and mentor graduate and undergraduate students pursuing similar careers. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated leadership and career accomplishments, including overseeing strategic development, capital planning, and intergovernmental coordination for major research campuses or public sector organizations. Proven leadership in city management is essential, particularly in managing large municipal budgets and guiding cities through periods of significant growth. The candidate should also possess expertise in streamlining budget and development processes, leading disaster recovery efforts, and holding senior roles such as Executive Director, City Manager, Deputy City Manager, Director of Development Services, Director of Planning, or Director of Historic Preservation or Economic Development. A strong record of teaching in urban planning, public policy, and land use law at accredited universities is strongly preferred, along with extensive leadership in strategic planning, policy implementation, and professional recognition-including awards for planning excellence and public communication. The successful candidate must be capable of guiding students through the complexities of public policy formation, providing both theoretical foundations and practical insights relevant to the field. Membership in the American Institute of Certified Planners or the Texas City Managers Association strongly preferred.
Successful applicants will contribute to the development and implementation of our State and Local Government area of specialization. A strong commitment to teaching and mentoring students in an academic setting is essential.
This is a full-time, 9-month appointment (Spring & Fall 2026).
Successful candidates will be expected to carry out a vigorous program of teaching at the graduate and undergraduate level.

- Applicants must have a master's degree in urban & regional planning.
