The Pediatric Optometrist will provide comprehensive pediatric vision exams and eye care services in community-based settings as part of the Casey Eye Institute¿s Community Outreach Program's Oregon Elks Vision Health Network. This role supports mobile and school-based vision clinics, with a specific focus on serving children in the rural school districts in Jefferson and Jewell. In addition to delivering clinical care, the optometrist will collaborate closely with school nurses, nurse aides, and local primary care clinics to coordinate follow-up care with local eye care providers. The optometrist will also train and mentor local health advocates to serve as Children's Vision Health Navigators, strengthening sustainable vision health systems within these communities. Additionally, the optometrist will contribute to program evaluation efforts by supporting data collection, identifying gaps in care, and informing quality improvement strategies.
Function/Duties of PositionPerform requirements for Staff Members as outlined in Compliance Roles and Responsibilities in OHSU Hospitals and Clinics; and also specific compliance requirements as outlined by the Oregon Board of Medical Examiners. Carry out responsibilities in an ethical, effective and professional manner. Report potential compliance problems using the reporting processes as outlined in the Code of Conduct. Model ethical and appropriate behavior, professional standards, compliance and personal integrity. Participate in training programs. Understand and comply with the Code of Conduct, OHSU and departmental policies and procedures, applicable rules and regulations. Adheres to all Casey Eye Institute Service Excellence standards and expectations and attends all related mandatory training programs.
Required Qualifications- Requires a Doctor of Optometry degree; current Oregon and Washington Optometry licensure.
Physical Demands & Working Conditions:
- Monthly travel to community and school-based health clinic community partner sites, with up to 20% travel with some prescheduled weekend work
- Ability to work in a variety of environments and stand or sit for continuous hours a day.
- Ability to move about mobile unit(s) and move equipment, and carts up to 30 pounds.
- Use hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls (specifically slitlamp and phoropter apparatus).
- Sit or stand while examining patients' eyes.
- Repetitive finger, hand and wrist motions.
