San Lorenzo Montessori is looking for an aftercare assistant. The position is part time, hourly, for the hours of 12:00pm to 5:30pm (until the last child leaves).

The aftercare assistant will work closely with staff to create a positive and supportive environment for children to develop and learn, guided by the Montessori Philosophy in a childcare setting.

We are looking for someone:

  • with good communication skills, who is positive, patient and open to working in an alternative educational setting.
  • with a desire to work with young children ages 18 months to 3 years, or 3 to 6 years old, and to learn about the Montessori philosophy.
  • who is comfortable with structure and routine, but flexible enough to meet individual children's needs and can accept direction from the lead teacher.
  • who will treat families, staff and children with respect, and maintain constructive relationships at all times.
  • who will supervise the children in the room, bathroom, communal spaces and outside area.
  • who must be able to lift a minimum of 40 lbs., and be able to bend down to child's eye level, as well work with the children while seated on the floor.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • redirecting children
  • room maintenance and keeping supplies stocked
  • toileting
  • assisting children with dressing and undressing
  • snack preparation
  • room cleaning and sanitizing
  • outdoor/indoor games
  • parent/staff social events

Candidates must also meet NY State Office of Children & Family Services requirements, which includes:

  • *CPR and first aid training
  • *finger printing
  • *background check
  • *OCFS training

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $ $25.00 per hour

Expected hours: 25 – 30 per week
