Job Summary:  

The Senior Survey Technician is responsible for managing and conducting advanced survey activities, including data collection, analysis, and preparation of survey documents. This role involves working closely with project managers, survey crews, and CAD specialists to ensure accurate, high-quality survey data for various projects. The Senior Survey Technician plays a key role in mentoring junior staff, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and supporting the successful delivery of surveying projects. 

Primary Essential Functions:  

  • Conduct advanced field and office surveying tasks, including data collection, data analysis, and preparation of detailed survey documents and reports.
  • Operate and manage survey instruments and equipment, such as GPS, total stations, and data collectors, ensuring accurate data collection.
  • Review and analyze survey data for accuracy, identifying and resolving discrepancies to maintain high-quality survey results.
  • Coordinate with project managers, survey crews, and CAD specialists to develop accurate and efficient survey plans and workflows.
  • Prepare, review, and approve survey drawings, maps, and reports, ensuring that all documents meet regulatory requirements and project specifications.
  • Mentor and train junior survey technicians and survey crew members, providing guidance on field procedures, equipment use, and data analysis.
  • Ensure that all surveying activities comply with industry standards, safety guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct quality control reviews of survey data and documents to ensure accuracy and consistency across projects.
  • Support the development and implementation of process improvements, ensuring that survey activities are conducted efficiently and effectively.
  • Assistwith project planning and resource allocation, providing input on survey needs, timelines, and equipment requirements.

Competencies (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities):  

Knowledge 

  • Extensive knowledge of surveying principles, methods, and equipment, including GPS, total stations, and data collectors.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and safety guidelines in surveying.
  • Understanding ofgeodetic and topographic surveying, boundary surveys, and construction staking.
  • Knowledge of CAD software and survey data processing tools.
  • Awareness of best practices in field data collection and quality control.

Skills 

  • Advancedproficiencyin using survey instruments and equipment.
  • Strong data analysis and problem-solving skills for identifying and resolving discrepancies.
  • Leadership and mentoring skills for guiding junior technicians and crew members.
  • Proficiencyin CAD software for reviewing and approving survey drawings.
  • Strong organizational skills for managing multiple survey tasks and deadlines.

Abilities 

  • Ability to conduct advanced surveying tasks independently and accurately.
  • Ability to train and mentor junior staff in surveying techniques and equipment use.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with project managers, survey teams, and clients.
  • Ability to manage survey data quality control and ensure consistency across projects.
  • Ability to adapt to changing project requirements and field conditions.

Qualifications:  

  • Associate's degree in Surveying, Geomatics, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in surveying, with expertise in field and office surveying tasks.

Preferred 

  • Professional Surveyor (PS) certification or equivalent.

Physical Requirements:  

  • Ability to remain seated for extended periods while working at a computer or attending meetings.
  • Frequent use of standard office equipment, including computers, keyboards, telephones, and printers.
  • Occasional light physical activity such as walking, standing, or carrying materials (50 lbs.).
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in person, over the phone, and through written communication.
