We move the academic dial together with urgency and excellence.Primary FunctionThe Dean of Academics evaluates and provides leadership for the instructional program. The Dean works collaboratively with teachers and administrators to promote and maintain high levels of academic achievement. The Dean leads the evaluation of instructional programs and implementation of quality instruction to enhance scholar achievement. The Dean provides professional development for teachers, coaches, and staff.Reports ToThe Dean of Academics reports to the Principal and district staff.Terms Of EmploymentFull Time/ Year-Round/ Salary- $52,000-$65,000/ On-SiteJob ResponsibilitiesChampions Beta's Vision, Mission and Core ValuesEnsures vision and mission drive school decisionsEnsures a professional and college preparatory climate across the campusConfronts low expectationsBuilds a culture of high aspirations and achievement for every scholarImplements Beta rituals, routines, celebrations and dances that ensure a culture of joy and academic successRequires staff and scholars to demonstrate consistent values and positive behaviors aligned to the school's vision and missionLeads a school culture and environment that successfully develops leadersUpholds a culture of honor and strong disciplineOrganization and ManagementMaintains visibility during the school day and monitors common areas to ensure student safety and securitySchedules benchmarks such as Interim Assessments, MAP/NWEA, IOWA, Star, and mock STAAR test to promote STAAR readinessUnderstands and uses the breakdown of benchmarks givenTrains teachers to understand the data and how to better assist their scholars through Data Driven Instruction (DDI)Trains teachers on data gathering systems such as MAP/NWEAEnsures TEKS are being taught in all gradesAligns curriculum with TEKSOrganizes and leads effective tutorials programs before, after, and during schoolOversees teacher communication with parents regarding child development and academic standingEnsures Teachers monitor scholar class folders for Individualized Learning Plans and are aware of the content of the plansWorks with Sped and ESL teachers to offer greater support to SPED and ESL scholarsDevelops and delivers academic training as needed for teachers and coachesFacilitates daily operations of local assessment (curriculum, DDI, STAAR, etc.)Prepares improvement plans as neededEnsure compliance of all teaching with Beta curriculum and TEA rules and regulationsHelps facilitate student success committeeEnsures enrollment and capacity expectations are metEnsures campus maintains > 98.5% daily attendance and timelinesEnsures teachers effectively use data (IEP Plan, student records, discipline data, etc.) to identify individual modifications and building-wide trends.Identifies at-risk scholars and works with Response-to-Intervention/Multi-tiered Systems of Support team to ensure proper supportLead and manage academic RTI/MTSS for implementation across grades 5–12Train teachers on RTI/MTSS identification, progress monitoring, and effective interventionsSchedule and chair RTI/MTSS meetings 6 times per year (every 6 weeks)Hold teachers accountable for completing biweekly progress monitoringEnsure Skyward logs and shared RTI trackers are updated and accurateMonitor scholar progress and make tier placement decisions in collaboration with teachersEnsure campus RTI/MTSS practices meet Texas HB1416 and state guidelinesCoordinate with interventionists, teachers, and principals to align supportsCommunicate RTI/MTSS expectations and updates to teachers and interventionists regularlyEnsures due process and legal compliance regarding all scholar disciplinary actionsCoaching, Observations & TIAEnsures an A campus rating from TEAObserves and gives feedback on classroom culture and behavior management systems.Coaches teachers in developing and maintaining high expectations for scholars and the learning environment they are expected to thrive inCoaches and models how to build strong, mutually respectful relationships with scholars and families grounded in our district's core valuesFacilitate collaboration and sharing among teachers including peer observations, coaching and mentorship, and joint planning sessionsWorks with intervention specialists to provide constructive feedback on teachers' planning and assessment materials to ensure that our scholars' diverse learning needs are being met; in conjunction with BA leadership teamEnsures access to and participation in high-quality internal and external professional development for staff; throughout the school year; Participate in staff recruitment; staff orientation, student/family recruitment, and student/family orientation;Oversees all aspects of TIAEnsures all teachers have up-to-date observations completed in compliance with TIAFacilitates and uses Whetstone to promote efficiency and accountability in the coaching cycleCommunicates with Whetstone representatives and schedules professional development to ensure the full use of this toolFacilitates coach program with district staff that aligns with our coach vision and is in compliance with TIA (e.g. Coach in-service)LeadershipTreats all people fairly and with dignity and respect.
