Position Summary: Under the direction of the school principal, the Teaching and Learning Support Department, and following grant requirements, the primary role of this position is to develop a strong understanding of the school community, and provide support for students and their families, while working with partners regionally to improve systems to serve students and their families. This position is Classified Exempt and not part of any bargaining unit and works during the school year.
In cooperation with school administrators and through the district-assigned grant supervisor:
- 1) Coordinate efforts with AASB, district counterparts, school teams, and partners to organize or offer incentivized professional learning and coaching.
- 2) Help to convene and advance the agenda of the equity site council and collaborative leadership structures as they pertain to the site.
- 3) Communicate and monitor site-based action plans with AASB, school staff, school administrators , and community stakeholders.
In cooperation with the district-assigned grant supervisor, school counselors or designated team members:
- 4) Work closely with the school counselor or other staff to schedule and prepare for Strong Start and Bridging Inventories.
- 5) Serve as a case manager or lead for family and community outreach to carry out specific goals within the Full Service Community Schools Implementation Plan.
In cooperation with the district-assigned grant supervisor, community-based positions and external agencies:
- 6) Host conversations with families.
- 7) Support school and community teams to access resources or opportunities for students and their families.
- 8) Participate in alignment and coordination meetings with other FSCS positions across the region (hosted by AASB).
In cooperation with the district-assigned grant supervisor, district staff and AASB:
- 9) Help organize documentation, tracking, and information systems.
- 10) Work closely with AASB and outside organizations to align services and long-term system development for behavioral health services and the needs of the students and their families.
- 11) Participate in a learning community across the region to share and learn about effective full service community schools program implementation.
- 12) Work with the evaluation team to address and communicate quality improvements and secure data for evaluation.
- 13) Contribute to reports of findings and stories with tribal entities, state education agencies, school board members , and other partners to support long-term sustainability.
In cooperation with the district-assigned grant supervisor, Title I staff, classroom teachers, and other school personnel:
- 14) Build strong relationships with families and partners.
- 15) Coordinate opportunities for families and their students.
- 16) Link families and students to health, transportation, and learning enrichment services.
- 17) Provide support for family partnership activities.
- 18) With guidance from the district-assigned grant supervisor, flexibly perform other duties as needed by the Association of Alaska School Boards, school principal, district staff, or community partners that would improve the Full Service Community Schools model.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
The requirements listed below represent the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the essential duties and responsibilities satisfactorily:
- Bachelor's degree in education, social work, human services, counseling, psychology, or a related field
- Experience working with children of diverse backgrounds
- Knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations regarding child welfare in schools
- Understanding of social-emotional development in children, adolescents, and adults
- Solid interpersonal, organizational, and oral/written communication skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, manage multiple priorities, and promote meaningful and healthy relationships between students, families/guardians, school staff, and community partners
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's degree in school counseling, social work, counseling, psychology, or a related field
- Knowledge of the effects of adverse childhood experiences and trauma on children, adolescents, and families
- Experience in child advocacy and parent/guardian outreach in public schools
- Case management experience assisting individuals/families to access a variety of community services
- Ability to navigate complex family and school situations that lead to better academic, social, and health outcomes for students and families
COMPENSATION: This position is a 203 day contract Aug-May during the regular school year not including Winter or Spring Break. Range L on the Classified Exempt Salary Schedule starting at $34.20/hr. Salary placement is dependent on experience and education. The Juneau School District offers a competitive salary and offers an excellent benefits package including medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, Public Employees Retirement System (PERS), and paid sick and vacation days.
