Heart & Vascular Ambulatory Surgery Center (HVASC) is recruiting for a PRN circulating RN to work in our ASC 1 -2 days per week. The circulating RN provides nursing care to the patient during pre, intra, and post-operative phases, assists physicians by giving moderate sedation and has the knowledge and experience with medications used and the skills to assess, interpret and intervene in the event of complications. This role serves as a patient's advocate and responds to patient inquiries and provides nursing care to the patient during pre, intra, and post-operative phases. Located in the attractive Southwest Florida Gulf Coast area, Heart & Vascular Ambulatory Surgery Center and Florida Heart Associates operates modern medical centers dedicated to meeting the cardiac needs of Southwest Florida. We perform diagnostic cardiac testing, in addition to peripheral vascular procedures. We also support an in-house cardiac PET imaging system, stress testing, ECHO, and management of arrhythmia equipment.

EDUCATION: Graduate of accredited Registered Nurse program.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum one (1) year experience in an invasive cardiology setting.
  • Registered Nurse required (active)
  • Experience in a Cardiac Cath lab preferred or 1 year of ICU experience
  • Experience in preoperative or critical care area required (minimum 3 years experience)
  • Good command of the English language, both verbal and written
  • Ability to work well with physicians, employees, patients, and others

CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE:

  • Current Florida RN license
  • ACLS and BLS Certification are required

DUTIES INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Supports the goals and objectives of the facility, participates in programs directed toward patient and staff safety, risk management and quality management; respond to emergency situations with competence and composure.
  • Participates in primary care of patients as indicated to enhance the quality of care provided; coordinates patient care activities with medical staff and health care team members to provide continuity of patient care; enforces the implementation of nursing practice standards to provide quality patient care
  • Performs the circulating nurse's functions adhering to approved invasive lab procedures (i.e. ensure equipment is functioning properly, supplies and instruments are ready before starting procedures, and provide moderate sedation while maintaining patient safety
  • Accurately assess and interprets age-specific patient data and responds to questions and instructions accordingly
  • Performs according to approved policies and procedures and reports observed or suspected violations, hazards, and non-compliance
  • Evaluates suggestions, grievances, and processes to identify opportunities to improve performance and quality of care or seeks further guidance, as needed. Implements approved changes.
  • Maintains and promotes professional competence through continuing education and other learning experiences; attends and actively participates in meetings, in-services, conferences, quality management activities, according to job duties and facility requirements
  • Responds in a timely manner to meet the needs of the patient and physician.
  • Perform other duties as needed or required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervising manager.

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Requires frequent and constant judgment, and the ability to make decisions and solve problems immediately; occasionally in response to disasters or emergencies, actual events or drills. Requires English language skills for constant high-level written and interpersonal communications.
  • Knowledge of contrast media (ionic vs. non-ionic).
  • Knowledge of coronary artery anatomy and cardiac physiology in relation to invasive cardiac procedures.
  • Knowledge of cardiac pharmaceuticals.
  • Skill in providing pre-cath patient education.
  • Skill in post-cath recovery.
  • Skill in IV insertion.
  • Skill in foley catheter insertion.
  • Skill in utilizing closure devices and angioseal.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public.
  • Ability to think critically.
  • Ability to communicate clearly.
