About the Role:

We are looking for a Head of Underwriting Strategy - Lending that will shape Remitly's lending strategy and manage credit risk while delivering outstanding customer value. Reporting to the GM of Credit Underwriting and Risk for Lending, you will own the definition of our credit underwriting strategies across customer acquisitions and management for our liquidity and borrowing solutions, and their financial assessment. You will design strategies with objectives of delivering outstanding customer value, maximizing integrated customer LTV for Remitly, and keeping risks under control. You will operate in a collaborative environment, solving a rich set of challenges with internal and external partners. You will have the opportunity to bring and continue building your credit analytics experience, while expanding your horizon with Remitly's global focus.

You Will:

  • Develop and iteratively refine customer risk segmentation, underwriting policy, line assignment and line management strategies for lending products, utilizing data-driven insights and prudent judgement. Ensure optimal outcomes on customer value, customer experience and business profitability, while fulfilling all regulatory requirements.
  • Define and drive organizational alignment on the vision, multi-year learning agenda and roadmap for our credit underwriting strategies and risk infrastructure capabilities. Collaborate with Product, Marketing and Engineering on conceptualizing new products, designing MVP and planning scaling campaigns, with a strong focus on driving economic viability and sustainability.
  • Define and own key performance assumptions and KPIs needed to drive the desired risk outcomes, economic returns and resilience of lending products. Build and own LTV models capturing cost and revenue drivers, including integrated value of customers to Remitly.
  • Establish robust monitoring and reporting routines to manage credit risk. Proactively undertake data analysis to bring portfolio and product performance insights and inform future strategies. Present findings and action recommendations to cross-functional stakeholders, secure alignment and drive execution.
  • Partner with Decision Sciences to develop, launch, and monitor credit decisioning models and advanced segmentation strategies. Evaluate new data sources and new tools / capabilities to enhance customer segmentation and underwriting decisions.
  • Drive a culture of experimentation: define and execute A-B tests, and utilize insights to ground product performance assumptions and inform future strategies.
  • Lead and mentor Credit strategy managers and/or analysts, directly or via influence; raise bar on problem framing, data analysis, unit economics, and executional excellence.

You Have:

  • 10+ years of professional experience in strategy and analytics roles driving financial business decisions.
  • 5+ years of professional experience leading consumer lending business strategies using model based automated customer segmentation and underwriting.
  • 3+ years of professional experience recruiting, managing and developing teams
  • Analytical and integrated thinking skills. Ability to balance quantitative and qualitative considerations in driving business decisions.
  • Experience distilling business problems from discussions, developing hypotheses and analysis framework, conducting analysis and finding creative solutions within constraints.
  • Data visualization, and technical business writing, and ability to collaborate with a diverse set of stakeholders.
  • Hands-on experience with SQL, scripting languages like Python/R for generating analytical insights from large-scale data.
  • Comfort with statistical concepts & tools such as linear/logistic regression, time series, an, experimental methods.

Compensation Details. The starting base salary range for this position is typically $164,000-$185,000. In the U.S., Remitly employees are shareholders in our Company and equity is part of our total compensation plan.
