SUMMARY:

The Media Technician performs instructional media center tasks related to the ordering, receipt, inventory, processing, computer input and access of media materials and equipment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Assists with the instruction of students and staff regarding proper use of equipment and library materials and resources normally associated with the IMC.

• Performs circulation tasks illustrated by, but not limited to, the following: charging, discharging, retrieving, receiving,

• Schedules media and library materials, and issues debt notices for lost or overdue items.

• Assists in maintaining calendar, inventories, circulation records; and compiles data for reports.

• Composes and types correspondence and reports utilizing computer application and equipment available at the time.

• Produces graphics, signs and transparencies; operates and monitors closed circuit TV where applicable.

• Assists with processing print and non-print media for circulation; shelves books and other media.

• Supports the relationship between the Phoenix Union High School District and the public by demonstrating courteous and professional behavior when interacting with students, parents, visitors, and school staff; maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, client records, and school information; follows Governing Board Policies; performs all other related duties as required or assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines:

High School diploma or GED equivalent; AND two years of technical library training is preferred. One year of clerical experience, preferably in a school library/media center setting.

License and Certification Requirements:

Possess an active Arizona Department of Public Safety IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card or obtain one within the first 90 workdays of employment.

IDEAL CANDIDATES WILL HAVE THE FOLLOWING KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• Ability to type 40 words per minute.
• Ability to compose letters using correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
• Ability to respond with tact, composure, and courtesy when dealing with others.
• Ability to listen well, and communicate effectively with diverse staff members and students.
• Ability to learn to operate and trouble shoot a variety of library equipment normally associated with the IMC.
• Ability to apply basic math skills.
• Ability to acquire a working knowledge of library terminology may be required.
• Ability to meet physical demands of position.
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to provide excellent customer experiences, including but not limited to interacting tactfully and courteously with the public.
