Medtronic is growing and seeks a
Principal Software Engineer
– Full Stack
to help define and build the next generation of Medtronic's image-guided surgery and robotic systems. This is a hands-on, impactful role where your work directly contributes to our mission: alleviate pain, restore health, and extend life for patients around the world.

In this role, you will:

  • Apply your technical expertise to deliver software that impacts real people every day.
  • Take full ownership of your work across the entire software lifecycle — from concept to launch.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with product, security, quality, regulatory, and testing teams to build and deliver real-world products.
  • Design and develop scalable, cloud-based software solutions using technologies such as Java Spring Boot or C# ASP.NET Core, React (or Angular), TypeScript, Python, AWS, Docker, PostgreSQL, and DynamoDB.
  • Architect and implement secure, maintainable backend services and RESTful APIs.
  • Mentor and uplift your peers through thoughtful code reviews and collaborative problem-solving, promoting best practices and sound engineering trade-offs.
  • Champion scalable, testable, and observable software that's designed for long-term success.
  • Lead technical initiatives independently, providing deep technical insight and architectural guidance.
  • Communicate effectively across teams and stakeholders — translating complex technical details into clear, actionable insights.

This is an
ONSITE
position located in Lafayette, CO.

Travel:
10-20% of travel, including international travel, is required for this role.

Minimum Requirement:

  • Bachelor's degree with minimum of 7 years of relevant experience
  • OR Master's degree with minimum of 5 years of relevant experience
  • OR PhD with minimum of 3 years of relevant experience

Nice to have:

  • Project Management Skills, including planning, estimation, and requirements management
  • Agile planning and estimation experience is highly desired
  • History of broad technical and non-technical impact on projects ranging from new product initiatives through evolving capabilities mature systems with a robust user base
  • Experience developing medical software, working in regulated industries, or an interest in learning

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$148, $222,000.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).
