PRIMARY PURPOSE SUMMARY :

Responsible for creating a classroom environment favorable to learning and personal growth of every student; establish effective rapport with students; provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical and social growth; and to establish good relationships with parents and other staff members. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to become a responsible citizen and function successfully in society.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Maintains good attendance and punctuality.

  1. Conducts instructional activities outlined by the teacher.

  2. Provides supervision of students with instruction or activities that may fall within or outside the classroom environment.

  3. Maintains a safe and orderly classroom.

  4. Follows district guidelines in maintaining classroom management, discipline and confidentiality.

  5. Supervises teacher assistant's duties which may include feeding, toileting, hygiene, positioning, transferring to and from wheelchair.

  6. May provide assistance to other staff using crisis intervention techniques and other behavior modification procedures.

  7. Assists in grading student assignments, quizzes, tests, etc., as well as entering students' grades into the grading software on campus, as required by campus administration.

  8. Attends Special Education, Admission, Review and Dismissal (ARD), faculty, department and other meetings, as required by administration.

  9. Maintains confidentiality of information.

  10. Performs additional duties and accepts other responsibilities as may be assigned, including those not specifically stated in the teacher absence announcement such as special education assignments, cafeteria/bus/hallway duties, etc.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Knowledge of subject(s) assigned
  • Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
  • Ability to adjust and be flexible to a multitude of situations as they occur
  • Ability to maintain effective classroom management strategies
  • Ability to maintain a positive learning environment
  • Ability to follow oral and written directions and have the ability to establish effective working relationships with staff and students
  • Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems
