Spring MA Program Start Date March 2, 2026
The Role of a Medical Assistant
Medical Assistants (MA) are valued members of the clinical care team. They are the first person to welcome a patient to the clinic and set the stage for a comfortable, caring experience.

MA tasks include patient rooming and information collecting, medication reconciliation, obtaining vital signs, updating medical records, assisting clinicians during procedures, performing hearing and vision screens, and other clinical and administrative tasks as assigned.

Successful MAs thrive in a fast-paced team environment, have a strong work ethic, and are professionalism, kind and dependable.

Train to Become a Medical Assistant
If the role of an MA sounds like the ideal healthcare career for you, the Dartmouth Health Career Institute (DHCI) can provide all the education and training you need to become a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant. We are currently accepting applications through January 16, 2026, for the training program starting on March 2, 2026.

You'll begin your MA training with an accelerated 12-week session in which you will complete 7 college-level courses to obtain required health sciences, professional and technical skills education.

Successful trainees then sit for the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) Exam administered by the National Heathcareer Association (NHA) and move into a Dartmouth Health clinic to complete a 2,000-hour Registered Apprenticeship through the US Department of Labor to gain more skills and competencies with on-the-job training and mentorship.
