REPORTS TO: Program Director/ Assistant Program Director

SALARY: Part-Time, $25-30 an hour, 15-20 hours a week; Commensurate with experience. This position is performance based and is also contingent on funding availability.

DATE: September 2025 – June 2026

SCHEDULE: Must be available during after school hours (2:15pm – 5:15 pm), Monday-Friday; Scheduling may vary due to needs of the program. Some occasional special events (will require you to work late evenings & attend trips or games).

JOB SUMMARY: As part of our Youth Services Department's (YSD) vision, all YSD Staff will assist in promoting growth, leadership and positive self-image in all young people during afterschool. Grand Street Settlement is currently seeking an Arts specialist. The role and responsibility of activity specialists is to promote health, wellness, creative expression, global learning, leadership and academic excellence to middle school and HS aged youth.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

BA strongly preferredThree (3) or more years' experience working with youth (volunteer experience is acceptable).Three (3) or more years' experience coaching, instructing, or facilitating group based activities (to youth preferred).Must have experience working with youth in elementary school.Ideal candidate is personable, energetic, & enthusiastic.Candidate must successfully complete the following: NYSDOH Fingerprinting Screening; New York State Clearance Review Background Check; 3 Reference Checks; Physical w/ updated TB Test (Fees may apply)If offered the position, must submit $25 fee for NY State Clearance ReviewValid CPR/AED Pro certification through recognized accrediting body preferred.Valid First Aid/RTE certification through recognized accrediting body preferred.Candidates are knowledgeable in various aspects of their expertise, curriculum instruction and general leadership education of youth.Candidates must be able to communicate effectively with all students while remaining professional at all times and be able to motivate the students while setting an example in all areas, including responsibility, timeliness, organization, attendance and most importantly, professionalism.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Facilitate planned activities that incorporate a deeper understanding of Sports and Health and WellnessResponsible for supervising participants in group with support from Group LeadersResponsible for maintaining classroom space and recreational space in an organized and clean fashionPartner with local organizations and facilities to maximize resources and build capacityResponsible for maintaining daily log of all incidents/ injuriesChaperone youth group during trips, sporting events, games, and other field activitiesCommunicate with supervisor regarding design and implementation of program, communicate barriers and brainstorm solutionsAssist with all aspects of programming (i.e. following organizations mission; supervising all youth, working collectively and communicating with all staff)Create and follow through on lesson plans and health/sports based curriculaCall parents regarding student performance and address parent concernsMaintain program supplies and proper use of all.Attend all required department/ agency meetings and/ or trainingsOther/special duties as assigned by supervisor and/ or senior staff
