Job Summary:

The EC Program Cook primarily assures daily food services for enrolled children that is nutritious and age appropriate. Supports nutrition and education in all classrooms with enrolled families. Promotes active parent and community partnering; in the early childhood education program.

Responsibilities:

Cooking/Preparation (75%) Maintaining Sanitation of Kitchen/Storage Areas (20%) Record-Keeping (5%)

Duties:

  • To participate in organization planning, implementation, coordination and evaluation of the nutrition services, including planning for program expansion, design and scope of services.
  • Comply with regulations regarding the nutrition services. Consults with staff regarding childrens special dietary needs.
  • To order food that is consistent with the philosophy of providing at least 2/3 of a childs daily nutritional needs.
  • To conduct food inventories to assure quality controls.
  • To provide age-appropriate meal service to all enrolled children.
  • To attend relevant staff meetings and staffing of children and families.
  • To participate in annual reviews of work plan and program policies and procedures.
  • To contribute to the development of communication, mutual respect, mutual support, competence ands creativity among all members of the ECE Program.
  • To maintain sanitation and cleanliness of kitchen and integrity of equipment.
  • To assist in compiling daily meal counts.
  • To assist in classroom nutrition activities.
  • To participate in relevant training and on-going continuing education opportunities.
  • To assist and participate in planned family/community activities and events.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Minimum High School diploma or Graduate Equivalency Degree (G. E. D.)
  • Certification/Training: Washington State Driver's License, Current Food Handlers Permit, CPR/First Aid Training, experience in menu planning and quantity cooking.
  • Personal Computer Skills: Basic personal computer skills are required, as well as the ability to learn word processing, spread sheet and other software programs.
  • General Office Skills: Basic clerical skills, strong record-keeping and filing.
  • Other: Must pass a criminal background check, pass a hair follicle test and complete a health screening (including annual TB).

Requirements:

  • Regularly required to finger, handle, reach with hands and arms
  • Frequently required to walk, sit, stand
  • Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Normal audio and visual acuity

Travel Requirements:

  • Local, Statewide and out of state travel may be required.
