Job Overview

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Teacher Assistant to join our team at Bright Start PT & PTA, PLLC to work with children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The Teacher Assistant will work closely with the lead teacher and other staff members to provide support and assistance to children with ASD in their educational and developmental journey. The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with children with special needs and a commitment to creating a nurturing and inclusive learning environment.

Responsibilities:

  1. Assist the lead teacher in implementing individualized service family plan (IFSP) for children with ASD.

  2. Provide one-on-one support to children with ASD during classroom activities, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.

  3. Help create and maintain a supportive and structured learning environment that caters to the unique needs of children with ASD.

  4. Assist with classroom management and behavior support strategies, including implementing positive reinforcement techniques and de-escalation strategies.

  5. Support children with ASD in developing social skills, communication skills, and academic skills through structured activities and interventions.

  6. Collaborate with other members of the multidisciplinary team, including therapists, counselors, and parents, to ensure continuity of care and support for children with ASD.

  7. Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills related to working with children with ASD.

  8. Maintain accurate records and documentation related to student progress, behavior incidents, and individualized goals.

  9. Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment where all children feel valued, respected, and supported.

  10. Perform other duties as assigned by the lead teacher or supervisor.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree in education, special education, or related field is a plus

  • Previous experience working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) preferred.

  • Knowledge of best practices in special education and evidence-based interventions for children with ASD.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, parents, and other stakeholders.

  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with children with special needs.

  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and effectively manage challenging behaviors.

  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet the diverse needs of children with ASD in a dynamic classroom environment.

  • CPR and first aid certification preferred (or willingness to obtain upon hire).

  • Ability to pass background check and meet all state and local requirements for working with children in an educational setting.

Working Conditions:

  • The position involves working in a classroom setting with children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

  • The Teacher Assistant may be required to provide physical assistance to children with mobility challenges or behavioral needs.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $ $23.50 per hour
