North Carolina LiteracyCorps (NCLC) Mission and Overview: The Duke University NC LiteracyCorps is a statewide consortium of AmeriCorps members working to build the capacity and impact of community and campus-based literacy programs. Members will provide direct service and/or capacity-building support to local education nonprofits and schools in Durham, Wake, and Pitt Counties.
The mission of the NC LiteracyCorps is to increase opportunities for North Carolina children and adults through tutoring, small group teaching, classroom assistance, and capacity-building activities that strengthen an organization's abilities to increase reach and impact. NC LiteracyCorps members will work alongside education professionals to increase the academic achievement, English skills, High School completion, or access to education and community resources in five counties across the state.

PfS Organization Mission and Overview
PfS Member Impact:
Members will increase the value of service-learning placements to partners and students by regularly communicating with both and seeking to understand their needs and resources
Member will increase the capacity and quality of the program by working to continuously improve efficiency in processes and materials
PfS' Member Service Position Summary: Service activities vary across programs but all will fall under the allowable activities outlined below.
(1) Strengthening volunteer management and recruitment, including:
(i) Enlisting, training, or coordinating volunteers; Training, coordinating, and supporting service-learning undergraduates
(ii) Helping an organization develop an effective volunteer management system; Working to develop and improve the management and tracking process for service-learning undergraduates
(iv) Promoting retention of volunteers by planning recognition events or providing ongoing support and follow-up to ensure that volunteers have a high-quality experience; Encouraging service-learning undergraduates to continue to volunteer during future semesters by providing ongoing support and follow-up to ensure that volunteers have a high-quality experience
(v) Assisting an organization in reaching out to individuals and communities of different backgrounds when encouraging volunteering to ensure that a breadth of experiences and expertise is represented in service activities Assisting with outreach to different groups of undergraduates (athletes, Kunshun students) to inform them about education service-learning classes
Other: Maintain and update tutoring program records, the PfS website, and the various tools used to communicate with service-learning undergraduates
(2) Conducting outreach and securing resources in support of service activities that meet specific needs in the community. For our purposes, outreach means communication strategy - social media, newsletters (other than volunteer newsletters) and resources is defined as pre-approved revenue or in-kind resource generation.

(3) Helping build the infrastructure of the sponsoring organization, including:
(i) Conducting research, mapping community assets, or gathering other information that will strengthen the sponsoring organization's ability to meet community needs; Building stronger relationships with our community partners, seeking to truly understand their requests and needs, in order to better foster a truly reciprocal experience
(iii) Developing organizational systems to improve efficiency and effectiveness;
(4) Developing collaborative relationships with other organizations working to achieve similar goals in the community, such as:
(i) Community organizations, including faith-based organizations;
(ii) Foundations;
(iii) Local government agencies;
(iv) Institutions of higher education; and
(v) Local education agencies or organizations
(5) DIRECT SERVICE ACTIVITIES may include:
Academically support K-12 students supervised by teachers and literacy experts (occasional)
Reading to children
Supporting out-of-school youth with high school equivalency attainment
Assisting with existing social media campaigns or making suggestions for how the program can effectively use social media
· Completing data entry as required to document services
· Tabling to provide agency information or materials or sharing resources in the community
Other: Create and facilitate small group reflection activities for service-learning undergraduates
Other: Research different community engagement models, including tutoring, academic support and mentoring, to see what is most effective for service-learning undergraduates and our community partners
PfS Essential Functions: All basic duties that must be performed WITH or WITHOUT a reasonable accommodation.
· Assist with "on-boarding" of service-learning undergraduates at the start of the semester
· Create and facilitate group reflections
· Build and improve relationships with community partners through communication and on-site visits
· Provide support and troubleshooting help to undergraduates as they navigate their service-learning experience
· Service will primarily take place on Duke's East Campus, in classrooms and in the Program in Education offices. Additional time will be spent at the facilities of community partners. Hours of attendance will typically be from M-F, within normal business hours. Some occasional weekend and evening hours will also be required

Student U's Mission and Overview
Student U Member Impact:
- Student U's LiteracyCorps Member will increase the capacity of Student U to deliver quality programming by developing and/or refining operational systems (food, technology, etc) across programs for efficiency and effectiveness
- Student U's LiteracyCorps Member will increase the capacity of Student U to evaluate programs by developing and/or refining systems for strong and impactful data collection across programs
- Student U's Literacy Corps Member will provide direct service via logistics management and presence at Tuesday/Thursday High School Programming
Student U's Member Service Position Summary:

Collecting and distributing books
Completing data entry as required to document services
Tabling to provide agency information or materials or sharing resources in the community
Other: Directly supporting with student recruitment efforts
Other: Direct support to students and staff at weekly High School academic support sessions as needed (T/Th evenings)
Student U's Essential Functions: All basic duties that must be performed WITH or WITHOUT a reasonable accommodation.
● Data collection and reporting: Track program progress and outputs, analyze outcomes, maintain records, and contribute to overall program evaluation
● Program logistic planning and execution: Collaborate with staff to design, refine, and oversee processes for necessary logistics across all programming (including but not limited to: student food and meals, technology, transportation)
● Mass communication and mailings: Assist in the planning and execution of Student U's large-scale communication(s) to students, families, and other stakeholders
● Provide support at Student U's High School Tutoring Program: Support Student U's High School Team in the oversight and execution of weekly Tuesday/Thursday academic support blocks for students
Student U's Marginal Functions (secondary job responsibilities) of the position. The Marginal Functions are those activities that are seldom or intermittently performed by the member and/or are additional duties that are preferred:
● Attendance at whole-team meetings: Attend monthly program meetings and/or program department meetings as needed
● Support at events: Help organize and execute larger Student U programming and development events (outside of daily programming)
● Backup duties: Temporarily cover for another staff member—for example, stepping in to oversee an academic support session if someone is absent
● Expanding programmatic partnerships: Cultivate connections with other nonprofits and other community partners to enhance Student U's programming as-needed
Student U's Required Qualifications:
● Citizenship or permanent residency status (Green card) required
● 17 years old or older required
● High School or GED equivalent required; College degree preferred
● Background checks: National Sex Offender check, state criminal check, FBI check required
● Proficiency in MS Office, Google, Canva, and some communication platforms
● Ability to work independently
● Strong personal organization skills
● Experience with and interest in working with/for young people
Student U's Preferred Qualifications:
● Bilingual skills in Spanish
Schedule:
Some evenings and weekends
Between Student U and Partners for Success, the NC LiteracyCorps member should plan to serve at least 8.5 hours a day Monday-Friday (extra half-hour to accommodate a half-hour lunch, 9 hours to accommodate a one-hour lunch)
o The majority of member's hours between both organizations should happen during normal business hours
Typical PfS schedule: PfS will require hours Mon-Fri, within normal business hours. Some occasional weekend and evening hours will also be required. The specific details of the schedule will be determined in collaboration with the member
Typical Student U Schedule: Student U will require a mix but will reliably need the member available Tuesdays and Thursdays 2:00-7:00 PM at the WG Pearson Center (during High School Programming)
o Student U will additionally require some daytime hours, Monday-Friday and will be determined with supervisor
Commitment Required and Benefits:
Members are expected to serve 11 months or through August 31st, whichever comes first, while also reaching the minimum number of hours for your member type. Fulltime members should expect to serve 40 hours per week (1700 total), and halftime members 22-25 hours per week (900 total) throughout the service year. These hours are based on an 11-month term. These ranges would increase if beginning service after October 1.
All members receive a monthly living allowance for up to 11 months of service, with total compensation varying by service term. The living allowance is only paid while a member is actively serving, and service must be completed no later than August 31, 2026.
· Full-Time (FT): $2,727.27 per month, not to exceed $30,000
