Job Summary

The Quality LAB CMM Supervisor is responsible for leading all quality inspection and metrology activities within a fast-paced aerospace and defense manufacturing environment. This role oversees LAB inspection operations, CMM inspectors, and all associated testing processes across Die Casting, Machining, Cleaning, and Assembly. The Supervisor ensures full compliance with regulatory and customer requirements, supports on-time delivery goals, and drives continuous improvement initiatives. Success in this position requires strong leadership, technical expertise in metrology and CMM programming, effective cross-functional collaboration, and a deep commitment to root cause analysis, corrective action, and preventive quality measures.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Oversight

  • Lead, mentor, and develop CMM and LAB inspectors; communicate expectations and ensure consistent performance to quality standards.
  • Direct daily inspection activities including First Pieces (FPs), Last Pieces (LPs - casting), X-rays, Spectrometer, FAIRs (including Net Inspect), DIPs, Cpk studies, and SPCs.
  • Prioritize LAB workload to support monthly billing objectives and achieve at least 95% on-time delivery across the facility.
  • Demonstrate a strong sense of ownership by driving accountability, setting clear priorities, and ensuring timely completion of commitments and corrective actions.
  • Foster a culture of teamwork, continuous improvement, and safety.

Quality Program Implementation

  • Collaborate with Production Control, Manufacturing Engineering, and Production Supervisors to strengthen communication and prevent product failures.
  • Lead improvement initiatives targeting product performance below 2,000 PPM and customer return rates under 3% of monthly shipped dollar volume.

Quality & Compliance

  • Perform hands-on setup, programming, troubleshooting, and operation of CMM equipment (e.g., Hexagon, Keyence, etc.).
  • Review, validate, and optimize CMM programs to ensure accuracy and repeatability.
  • Own and support all non-conformance investigations, including root cause analysis and corrective/preventive action (RCA/CAPA) activities.

Documentation & Process Control

  • Oversee document control for inspection records including FAIRs, DIPs, Attribute Reports, FPs, LPs, and in-process inspections.
  • Review and approve all FAIRs, FPs, LPs, DIPs, Cpk studies, and SPC reports.
  • Ensure compliance with aerospace quality standards (AS9100/ISO 9001) and internal procedures.

Equipment & Process Management

  • Maintain responsibility for calibration scheduling, equipment readiness, and overall LAB organization.
  • Drive improvements in inspection methods, metrology techniques, and programming efficiency.
  • Participate in capability studies, Measurement System Analysis (MSA), and review/selection of new metrology equipment.

Training & Development

  • Provide training to inspectors on quality standards, inspection procedures, CMM operations, and continuous improvement methods as assigned by the Director of QA.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Associate's degree or technical certification in Metrology, Manufacturing, or Quality.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in CMM programming/inspection; aerospace or defense industry strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of leadership or supervisory experience in a technical manufacturing environment.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Level III skill set in PC-DMIS CMM programming.
  • Reading engineering drawings and apply GD&T principles a must.
  • Understanding of AS9100/ISO 9001 and aerospace quality systems.
  • Demonstrated experience with quality tools such as RCA, FMEA, control plans, capability studies, and SPC including document control and corrective preventive action systems.
  • Ability to operate all required inspection equipment and interpret corresponding results.
