Description

Primary Purpose

The Data Engineer will design, build, and maintain scalable data infrastructure. This role can be scaled from entry-level (Tier 1) to strategic leadership (Lead), depending on experience and organizational needs. The role will play a key role in enabling data-driven decision-making by ensuring clean, reliable, and accessible data across the organization.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Tier I

• Assist in building and maintaining basic ETL pipelines.
• Perform routine data cleaning and validation.
• Support data ingestion from internal and external sources.
• Document processes and escalate complex issues.

Tier II

• Design and optimize ETL/ELT workflows from API, flat files and other sources.
• Develop and maintain data models and schemas.
• Collaborate with analysts and developers to meet data needs.
• Monitor data pipeline performance and troubleshoot issues.
• Optimize data delivery and automate manual processes.
• Perform regular backups and recovery procedures.
• Understanding of PCI regulations.

Tier III

• Architect scalable data solutions across cloud and on-prem environments.
• Implement data governance, quality, and security standards.
• Lead integration of new data sources and technologies.
• Assemble large, complex datasets from multiple sources.
• Build infrastructure using Azure, Snowflake, Databricks, SQL, Fabric and Power BI.
• Ensure data quality, integrity, and security across platforms.
• Set up and manage user access and permissions.
• Monitor database performance and apply necessary updates or patches.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical strategy.

Lead

• Own the data engineering roadmap and infrastructure strategy.
• Oversee team performance and cross-functional collaboration.
• Drive innovation in data architecture and automation.
• Align data systems with business goals and analytics initiatives.
• Collaborate with data analysts, and product teams to support data needs.
• Ensure data security, privacy, and compliance with regulations.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical strategy.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

• Comprehensive knowledge of the products Country Supplier sells.
• Perform daily cleaning – such as, but not limited to, vacuuming, replacing full trashes with new trash bags, and sweeping.
• Other duties assigned as needed.

Qualifications

Tier I

• Associate's degree in IT, Data Engineering or related field, or equivalent and related experience.
• Basic SQL and Python skills.
• Familiarity with relational databases and data formats (CSV, JSON, DAX, SQL).
• Google Analytics Certificate preferred.
• Microsoft Azure Fundamentals preferred.
• CompTIA Security+ preferred.
• Administering Microsoft SQL Solutions preferred.

Tier II

• Bachelor's Degree in IT, Data Engineering or related field, or equivalent and related experience.
• 2+ years of experience.
• Proficiency in SQL, Python, DAX, and ETL tools (e.g., Airflow, dbt).
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP, Fabric).
• DBT Fundamentals preferred.
• Microsoft DP-700 preferred.
• Data Engineering on Microsoft Azure preferred.

Tier III

• Bachelor's Degree in IT, Data Engineering or related field, or equivalent and related experience.
• 4+ years of experience.
• Expertise in data warehousing (e.g., Snowflake, Redshift).
• Strong understanding of data architecture and performance tuning.
• Strong understanding of CI/CD environments.
• Strong programming skills (Python, Java, Scala, DAX).
• Experience with big data tools (Lakehouse, Power BI, Fabric).
• Understanding of/experience in Lakehouse architecture, Star Schema and Medallion Architecture.
• Snowflake SnowPro Core preferred.
• Microsoft DP-600T00 preferred.
• CAPM preferred.

Lead

• Bachelor's Degree in IT, Data Engineering or related field, or equivalent and related experience.
• 7+ years' experience.
• Proven leadership in data engineering and infrastructure.
• Experience aligning data strategy with business outcomes.
• Proven experience with relational databases (SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL).
• Solid understanding of API protocols (e.g., REST, SOAP, JSON, XML) and web services.
• ITIL V4 preferred.
