Job Title: Quality Test Engineer
Job Description
The Quality Test Engineer is responsible for ensuring that both software and hardware products meet established quality benchmarks and user expectations. This is accomplished by developing, implementing, and overseeing testing protocols, identifying and documenting issues, and working collaboratively with design and development teams to enhance product reliability and prevent future problems.

Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed test plans and cases to evaluate product strengths and weaknesses.
  • Design and construct test setups for manual and automated evaluation of electrical and electronic systems and components.
  • Detect and record software bugs and other issues using tracking tools, and communicate findings to developers and stakeholders.
  • Review test outcomes to spot trends, troubleshoot problems, and refine testing methods.
  • Partner with developers, designers, and project managers to provide feedback on requirements and maintain quality throughout development.
  • Ensure products comply with user needs, industry regulations, and company standards.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of defects and testing procedures for future reference and training.
  • Oversee qualification plans for processes and products, including tool validation, capability studies, and control methods in collaboration with Engineering and Quality teams.
  • Lead internal audits to verify compliance with corporate quality standards, identify gaps, and ensure corrective actions are completed.
  • Monitor and analyze quality metrics such as non-conformances, process capability, MRB, cost of quality, field failures, and audit results.
  • Summarize quality data, identify improvement opportunities, and drive initiatives to completion.
  • Manage the collection and analysis of statistical data and specifications to assess current standards and set future quality and reliability goals.
  • Mentor and train engineers and manufacturing leads in SPC, root cause analysis, and preventive measures; lead quality investigations.
  • Share information with relevant departments, assist in researching product defects with engineering, and recommend changes to meet quality standards.
  • Lead key quality improvement projects from initiation to completion.
  • Participate in and facilitate meetings focused on enhancing product quality.
  • Ensure purchased materials and components meet specifications, including conducting supplier audits and resolving supplier-related quality issues.
  • Set requirements for raw materials and monitor supplier compliance.
  • Handle non-conforming materials and products, recommending cost-effective solutions.
  • Use customer feedback and internal data to update control methods.
  • Communicate customer requirements regarding product information and quality objectives, including related training.
  • Supervise the Inspection department and update procedures to maintain organizational quality standards.
  • Manage the AS9100 Quality System, including training, audits, and documentation control.
  • Work within deadlines to ensure timely product delivery.
  • Occasional travel may be required to address off-site quality concerns.
  • Additional responsibilities include database maintenance, customer relationship management, product lifecycle management, and asset management.
  • Facilitate communication between shop supervisors, engineering, and management, reporting production issues as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a quality test or test engineering role within manufacturing.
  • In-depth knowledge of tools such as FMEA, Control Plans, SPC, DOE, Acceptance Sampling, and MSA.
  • Experience managing and auditing quality systems, especially AS9100.
  • Excellent analytical skills for diagnosing complex issues and proposing effective solutions.
  • Familiarity with various testing methodologies (functional, regression, performance, security), testing tools, bug tracking systems, and programming languages.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Ability to interpret technical documents and regulations.
  • Proven track record of leading successful quality improvement projects.
  • Proficiency in mathematical concepts including probability, statistics, geometry, and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply logical and scientific reasoning to diverse problems.
  • Effective communicator with management, staff, vendors, and agencies.
  • Experience analyzing inspection and test data to improve processes and product quality.
  • Knowledge of military standards.
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems.
