Job Overview
The Materials Manager is responsible for overseeing all warehouse operations to ensure efficient receipt, storage, kitting, and distribution of materials required for manufacturing. This role manages inventory accuracy, supports production schedules, and leads a team to maintain high standards of safety, quality, and productivity. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, deep knowledge of material flow in a manufacturing setting, and a proactive approach to continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage day-to-day operations of the warehouse team, including receiving, stocking, kitting, shipping, inventory control, and material movement.
  • Coordinate closely with procurement, production planning, and manufacturing to align material availability with production schedules.
  • Maintain inventory accuracy through regular cycle counts, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
  • Develop and enforce warehouse processes that promote efficiency, cleanliness, and safety (5S/Lean).
  • Manage inbound and outbound logistics to ensure timely delivery of materials and finished goods.
  • Implement and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), including inventory accuracy, order fulfillment rate, receiving cycle time, and kitting readiness.
  • Optimize layout and space utilization to improve material flow and minimize handling.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements (e.g., OSHA).
  • Train, develop, and evaluate team members; foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Participate in ERP/MRP system usage and enhancements related to warehouse functions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Operations, or a related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of warehouse/materials management experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • 2+ years of supervisory or management experience.
  • Skills & Competencies:
  • Strong understanding of material planning, inventory control, and warehouse best practices.
  • Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite).
  • Data-driven approach to decision-making and performance improvement.
  • Effective communicator and team builder.
  • Lean or Six Sigma certification is a plus.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Occasional standing and walking within the office.
  • Manual dexterity to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and other office equipment.
  • Visual acuity to read screens, documents, and reports.
  • Work in a warehouse/manufacturing environment with exposure to forklifts, machinery, and varying temperatures.
  • Occasional reaching, bending, or stooping to access file drawers, cabinets, or office supplies.
  • Lifting and carrying items up to 50 pounds occasionally.
