General PurposeProvide technical expertise in the specialized field of protection and control equipment. Act as an expert to personnel in the specialized field of Protective Relay Application to investigate and resolve problem situations and complex issues. Facilitate internal training for substation journeyman, relay technicians or communications technicians. Research, analyze, develop and implement new programs, systems and/or processes in response to changing internal and external conditions. Develop and maintain operational and procedural documentation.
Responsibilities- Provide technical oversight and guidance to the T&D support staff and Utility Operations staff.
- Serve as the Company expert in the specialized field of Protective Relays Applications and provide authoritative consultation and recommendations to senior management.
- Provide technical expertise to critical and highly complex substation, distribution and transmission operation, protective relays, and control functions within the business.
- Develop and modify policies and practices to improve the overall operational effectiveness of PacifiCorp's transmission and distribution system.
- Lead development and implementation processes and procedures to enhance operational effectiveness.
- Evaluate policies, procedures and other documentation and ensure all aspects of electrical operations are in accordance with company safety procedures, legislative requirements and meet all NERC reliability standard requirements.
- Advise local relay technicians, communication technicians, and substation journeymen and develop and review daily and weekly schedules when required.
- Analyze protectionand control schemes and prints and prepare field notebooks and outlines for installation of substation equipment
- Work with engineers and operations staff to resolve system and design issues.
- Provide training as needed for various departments including dispatch, relay technicians, relay technician trainees, communication technicians, communication technician trainees, substation journeyman, substation journeyman apprentices and switchman.
Requirements For Mid Level Position Include The Following
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field; or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
- A minimum of two years of related experience.
- Knowledge of the high voltage power system and protective relay applications.
- Assessment skills including problem diagnosis and identification of proper methods and techniques to resolve and prevent future problems.
- Communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to consult and resolve internal and external customer issues which maybe critical, sensitive, or urgent in nature.
- Abil
ity to work with all levels of an organization including people with different styles and backgrounds; ability to work as a member of a team.
- Knowledge of current technologies, tools, systems, and vendors as it relates to protective relay applications.
- Understanding of applicable company policies, practices and procedures.
- Ability to effectively translate technical jargon into layman's terms.
- Travel may be required.
- Respond after hours to support field crews as required
In addition, the Sr Level Position Requires;
- A minimum of 5 years of industry experience as a journeyman relay technician, Ptroection and Control Engineer, including experience performing highly technical work of a specialized nature.
- Leadership skills including the ability to work as a team member, maintain project timelines, budgets, and deliver on commitments.
- Ability to perform effectively in high-pressure situations while maintaining focus and calmness.
- Highest level of communication and interpersonal skills involving the ability to work cross-functionally to understand requirements, present alternatives and recommendations.
- Proficient with the use of personal computers and automated tools.
- Expert knowledge and applications of principles in applicable area of specialty.
- Knowledge of the power system.
- Assessment skills including problem diagnosis and identification of proper methods and techniques to resolve and prevent future problems.
- Ability to work with all levels of an organization including people with different styles and backgrounds; ability to work as a member of a team.
Experience supervising technical personnel.

This position is eligible for an annual discretionary performance incentive bonus of up to 15.00% of salary.
