The purpose of this job is to assess, develop, implement, and evaluate health education, behavioral risk reduction, and health promotion programs and initiatives to impact individual and community behavior, policies, and environments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities - The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job.   • Serves as a public health resource and advocate to individuals, schools, and community leaders/agencies; develops outreach and educational materials.

  • Assesses health of target populations and researches appropriate intervention strategies; plans, develops, and implements evidence-based programs and best practices to promote positive behavior change.

  • Initiates, maintains, and strengthens community partnerships.

  • Manages contracts and funds, writes grants, and compiles reports.

  • Conducts program evaluation and research.

  • Creates and presents reports.

  • Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

No supervisory authority. Work may require providing guidance and training to others.

Fiscal Responsibility

  • Position has limited fiscal responsibility.

  • May assist in the collection of data in support of recommendations for departmental budget allocations. May monitor division or program/promotional level budget and expenditures.

Education and Experience - An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Public Health, Health Sciences, or related field required.

  • 3 to 5 years' experience in public health, health sciences, or related field.

Licenses or Certifications

  • Valid driver's license

  • Must be registered with the Missouri Family Care Registry.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities which may be representative, but not all-inclusive of those commonly associated with this position

Knowledge of:

  • Public health best practices, and cultural competency.

  • Basic qualitative and quantitative research skills.

  • Project and program management.

  • General office practices and administrative procedures, records management and administration techniques and procedures.

  • Common business software applications such as Microsoft Office.

Skill in:

  • Communicating verbally and in writing to meet the needs of the audience.

  • Applying active listening and asking questions for understanding.

  • Collecting, organizing, and analyzing complex and/or technical data.

  • Organizing and managing time effectively.

Ability to:

  • Handle difficult and stressful situations with professional composure and maintain effective interpersonal relationships.

  • Establish program goals and objectives that support programming, fidelity requirements, and the strategic plan and to plan, implement, and evaluate programs.

  • Compile, organize, interpret, and communicate data and results concisely.

  • Regularly use a computer, software, phone and related office equipment.

Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.

  • Incumbents required to grasp, push, drive, reach with hands/arms, and stoop/crouch.

Mondays – Fridays: 8am-5pm. Some evenings and weekends.
