Overview

The Communications Officer plays a vital role in ensuring effective communication within the organization and with external stakeholders. This position requires a skilled professional who can manage multi-line phone systems, handle phone triage, and provide exceptional support in high-pressure situations. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, analysis capabilities, and the ability to manage conflicts efficiently. EMT experience or knowledge of medical terminology is a plus, as is familiarity with GIS and GPS technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Manage incoming calls through multi-line phone systems, ensuring proper phone etiquette and triage.
  • Provide clear and concise communication to internal teams and external partners.
  • Utilize GIS and GPS tools for mapping and resource allocation as needed.
  • Maintain accurate data entry and transcription of communications for record-keeping purposes.
  • Assist in dispatching services while adhering to safety protocols and security measures.
  • Apply negotiation skills to resolve conflicts effectively while maintaining professionalism.
  • Analyze information quickly to make informed decisions during emergencies or urgent situations.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement and emergency services as required, ensuring effective communication flow.
  • Stay updated on medical terminology, first aid practices, and relevant procedures to assist in emergency situations.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience as an EMT or in a similar medical role is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with GIS technology and GPS systems is an advantage.
  • Strong typing skills with attention to detail for accurate data entry and transcription tasks.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey information clearly.
  • Proven conflict management abilities to handle challenging situations effectively.
  • Experience in dispatching or working within law enforcement environments is beneficial.
  • Ability to work under pressure while maintaining composure and professionalism.
  • Strong analytical skills to assess situations quickly and provide appropriate responses.
  • Proficiency in using multi-line phone systems and other communication tools. This role is essential for maintaining operational efficiency within our organization, ensuring that all communications are handled professionally and effectively.
