San Francisco State University, College of Ethnic Studies offers an exciting opportunity for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in one of the five departments including Africana Studies, American Indian Studies, Asian American Studies, Latina/o Studies and Race and Resistance Studies beginning August 2026. We seek a colleague whose teaching and research interests are on the intersections of race, ethnicity and disability. We are especially interested in qualified candidates with a demonstrated commitment - through their research, teaching, and service - to the diversity and excellence of our academic departments in the College of Ethnic Studies.

Required qualifications

  • Ph.D. or M.F.A, or equivalent terminal degree in relevant field. Terminal degree must be completed by the first day of employment.
  • Record of working and communicating effectively with colleagues and students

About the Department

The position is in the College of Ethnic Studies San Francisco State University. The College of Ethnic Studies has 110 faculty members, 30-degree programs and over 8,000 students enrolled each semester. The successful candidate may choose their home department within the College of Ethnic Studies including these departments: Africana Studies, American Indian Studies, Asian American Studies, Latina/o Studies, or Race and Resistance Studies. The position focuses on the intersections of race, ethnicity, and disability.

Responsibilities

The position requires undergraduate teaching in the intersections of race, ethnicity and disability, mentoring and advising undergraduate students, developing an active ongoing scholarship program or program of creative work on the intersections of race, ethnicity and disability, and ongoing committee and service assignments.

Compensation

The Assistant Professor salary range is:

$93,000 to $101,000 annually (12 monthly payments per academic year).

Salary offered is commensurate with experience and qualifications. In addition, the California Equal Pay Act prohibits employers from paying its employees less than those of the opposite sex and/or another race or ethnicity for substantially similar work ( ).

Professional development funds, moving expenses, start-up funds, and a reduced teaching load may be available.
