Position Summary

The Purchaser is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and purchasing products to maintain optimal inventory levels and meet customer demand. This position works closely with vendors, the sales team, and the warehouse to ensure timely product availability, cost efficiency, and quality standards in line with company policies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Source and purchase seafood, produce, and other specialty food items from approved vendors.
  • Monitor inventory levels and place orders as needed to maintain adequate stock.
  • Negotiate pricing, terms, and delivery schedules with suppliers to achieve cost savings and ensure on-time delivery.
  • Review and analyze purchase orders, invoices, and shipping documents for accuracy.
  • Maintain strong relationships with vendors and identify new sourcing opportunities.
  • Coordinate with the sales team to anticipate customer needs and adjust orders accordingly.
  • Communicate with the warehouse team to track shipments and manage product rotation and freshness.
  • Resolve delivery, quality, or pricing issues promptly and effectively.
  • Stay current with market trends, seasonal availability, and pricing fluctuations.
  • Prepare purchasing reports and maintain accurate purchasing records in company systems.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in purchasing, procurement, or supply chain management (food industry preferred).
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Knowledge of seafood or perishable food purchasing a plus.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Bilingual (English/Japanese, English/Spanish, or English/Korean) a plus.

Work Environment

  • Office and warehouse setting.
  • Regular interaction with suppliers, internal departments, and delivery operations.
  • May require occasional early or late hours based on delivery schedules and product availability.
