The University of Miami, Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, has an exciting full time opportunity for a Senior Optometrist. The Senior Optometrist performs ocular examinations to detect disease or abnormal conditions of the eye. Moreover, an employee in this position prescribes eyeglasses, contact lenses, and drugs to treat eye disorders.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
- Diagnoses eye and vision problems as well as some conditions caused by systemic diseases.
- Examines visual acuity, depth, and color perception.
- Assesses ability to coordinate and focus eyes.
- Prescribes contact lenses and glasses.
- Provides vision therapy and low-vision rehabilitation.
- Analyzes test results and develops treatment plans.
- Administers drugs to aid in the diagnosis of vision problems.
- Prescribes drugs to treat some eye diseases.
- Provides preoperative and postoperative care.
- Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Doctor of Optometry (O.D.)
Certification and Licensing:
Certification in relevant specialty or field
Experience:
Minimum 3 years of relevant experience
Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:
- Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
- Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
- Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
- Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
- Commitment to the University's core values.
- Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.
