SUMMARY: The Open-Heart Surgery Program at Rhode Island Hospital is currently seeking experienced Physician Assistants/Nurse Practitioners to join our dynamic team. The Department of Cardiac Surgery offers a full range of cardiac surgical services in a state-of-the art facility. Our dedicated and experienced team of PAs and NPs provides comprehensive patient care, including pre-operative assessment, intra-operative first assist, open and endoscopic conduit harvesting, and post-operative management from the ICU through discharge. The ideal candidate would have at least two years of critical care experience and be proficient in pre- and post-operative ICU and step-down management of complex surgical patients. Cardiac surgical critical care experience is preferred but not necessary. All applicants should possess a high level of analytic ability and be able to function with significant clinical autonomy. Schedule consists of 12 hour or 24 hour per diem ICU shifts with rotating weekend and holiday coverage. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Physician Assistants must be graduates of an accredited PA program with current NCCPA certification. Nurse Practitioners must be graduates of a Nurse Practitioner program and certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or by the America Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP). Candidates should hold or be eligible for licensure in the State of Rhode Island as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner, be eligible for a Federal DEA certificate and have completed approved BLSCLS courses within the last two years. Candidates should have excellent interpersonal skills, superior written and oral communication skills, as well as computer literacy including electronic medical record documentation, and the ability to work both as a team member and independently.
