In this role, you will review weld quality on project sites and assist with quality system audits of welding shops across the U.S. and internationally.

Candidates should have experience in welding inspection—whether through a Mechanical Engineering or Materials Engineering background, or as a Certified Weld Inspector with engineering experience.

The position is fully remote (U.S.-based) and requires 50%+ domestic and international travel.
What You'll Do

  • Inspect weld quality of utility poles at project sites to ensure compliance with specifications and standards.
  • Audit and qualify weld shops, ensuring suppliers meet quality, safety, and performance requirements.
  • Lead root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions (SCAR/NCR, CA/PA).
  • Conduct ISO and supplier quality system audits, including capacity and conformance checks.
  • Use SPC, APQP, and other tools to monitor supplier performance and reduce defects.
  • Collaborate with suppliers, engineering, supply chain, and logistics teams to drive continuous improvement.
  • Facilitate reporting on supplier quality performance, scorecards, and cost of poor-quality metrics.
  • Travel internationally (~50%) and domestically, including extended stays during production runs; typical schedule is Monday–Friday with weekends at home.

What You'll Bring

  • Required: Bachelor's degree in engineering and experience in weld inspection.
  • 2+ years of progressive experience in engineering, construction management, or quality assurance.
  • Strong knowledge of welding inspection standards (AWS D1.1 required)
  • UT, VI, MPI, or FP experience preferred.
  • Engineering expertise in fabricated/welded products, preferably in the utility or energy sector.
  • Proven ability to interpret and write codes, standards, and specifications.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills; knowledge of Statistical Process Controls (SPC), Advanced Quality Product Plan (APQP), and quality tools.
  • Must be fluent in English, with strong command for both written and spoken communication.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Willingness to travel 50% internationally and domestically. (Home most weekends)
  • Safe driving record required.
  • Must be based in the US, near a major airport, with a valid Real ID and Passport.
  • Work schedule follows Central Time Zone hours
  • No sponsorship offered, except for a TN Visa.
